Eka swingblade

What does everyone think about these ? Anyone have any problems ? And how do you sharpen the gutting blade ? Especially for use on bigger deer species .

I really like mine, I use a blade-tech sharpener for the gutting blade. The only thing that lets it down is the quality of the sheath.

Dave did you use it on your trip on the hinds? Is it big enough to bleed a red ?

Exellant bit kit. Only problem I find with them is the broadness of the blade at the end, makes intricate work tricky (ar5e holes etc).
As for the unzipping blade I just use a steel but very rarely have to do it as its only ever in contact with flesh.

cheers. Matt.

In a nutshell great review top class piece of kit

I have one, its fine, but like all folders you end up with crud in the gaps. Fine if you're only shooting one deer, but a pain otherwise.

Have now gone back to a fixed blade.

I've got one but to be honest i would buy the normal fixed blade one not the swingblade if i was to buy another i used the gut blade a few time but found the normal blade used with the usual care was better. and as already said the other blade and hinge get covered in blood and hair

I love mine. Orange is the way to go, in my opinion.
I find the gut blade ideal for working round the a**ehole actually.
I am sure you can pass it on if you don't get along with it and not lose too much money.

All the posts above have given you all the pros and the cons - biggest con the sheath, bin it and buy something decent that will last. Biggest pro - holds an edge and sharpens easily and it's a 2 in 1 if hats what you want.

A good piece of kit. It does hold an edge well but, when it needs sharpening, I just use a diamond sharpening rod and it's fine. If there is one disadvantage it's that the blade is short and as such bleeding larger deer is difficult....but not impossible. As for the anus removal - well I do it the same way as Mike Allison (see the Jelen youtube vids) which actually means the blade design is perfect.

All the comments about the sheath are correct but that's easily sorted. There are some good guys on this site who do some excellent leather work who'll be able to help.
