Not sure which Binos to get ?

I have Swaro EL 8.5 x 42 as a main pair for everyday use, and a pair of Minox BV 8x42 for back-up and visitors!
The Minox are about 95% as good as the Swaros, but at about 10% of the cost! It's always good to have a spare pair!

I'm after a pair of 8x42 - but not sure what to get.

I've seen these as they are ones that I've used a work, I know there made in Japan under sub-contract but not sure by who:-

Too nice to use?

Spent 14 years in the mob listening to people complain about shiite kit, and now you've got these binos they're too nice to use? Get a grip man, Use them!

Yep, just use them and enjoy them for the great product that they are.......and if you should have a problem you can rely on the superb customer service that Swarovski provide.

You can rely on them, but as I found to my cost, you will be without a pair for a few weeks whilst they are away in Austria being fixed! I am out most days and can't do without for any length of time which was why the Minox were purchased in the first place. Always good to have a spare of everything if you can!

I've had my Swarovski SLC10x42 bins. for 18 years and used them in all weathers and conditions. They've been dragged through wet grass & mud, snow, rain, the whole lot with just average care.

Last year I sent them back to Swarovski and had them serviced. They came back with parts replaced in a sealed cellophane bag and look just like 'brand new'. Fantastic service, turned around in four weeks.
The charge for all this? Nothing. Not one penny.

A friend has similarly aged & model bins but had really knackered his object lenses and was charged £150 for those to be replaced. His bins. also came back looking and feeling absolutely mint.

Swaros will take any amount of work you care to give them, and with the bullet-proof warranty, shouldnt have any bother if you need to send them back for a service; buy cheap, pay twice...and why have cotton when you have silk??

I first bought Minox HG 8.5 x 43's then got new Swaro EL's when my stalking got serious.

A problem I found with the Minox is that the eye cups are really bad for picking up pine needles etc and the eye piece twist out mechanism has jammed twice now (even when using the flip over protector - same as my EL's).

When crawling over heather etc or walking through thicker woodland, its inevitable I'm going to catch something over time and this has resulted in two returns to Minox to rectify the twist lock eye cup when I couldn't dislodge the debris. No problems with the service or retuns I must add.

In comparison, the Swaro eye cups can be fully unscrewed, cleaned and back in business within a few mo's due to the design.

Another addition I'd like to see for the Minox are the winged eye cups Swaro supply for the EL's, I personally find the are a great accessory.

I have tried to convince myself that the quality of image was the same with both sets of bino's at dusk/dawn when comparing them side by side (and pondering if they really were worth the extra £££'s) but in my opinion the EL's are much clearer and hold the detail and definition longer in fading light.

The ergonomics of the EL's also win hands down when prolonged usage over a period of days is required. Not knocking the Minox by any means, great bins, but I find it hard to say they are equal to the EL's through my experience and useage of both.

I've had my eye on these Meopta binos for a while now, only prob is my missus has got her eye my bank balance. I've got a Meopta scope on my 308 and it's brilliant.

I have the 10x32 version and love them, they replaced an older pair of Leica 8x32 and I find them clearer and better even in low light.
I recently bought a Meopta scope direct from Marchwood and have nothing but praise for the service I received, not to mention a great price as well.
