Got on to the A90 just outside Dundee heading for Perth.
Passing by a Landy being driven out of a farm track on to the dual-carriageway
Look at the driver and spot his rifle barrel and moddy poking out of the driver's window.

So here's the question.
Should I have stopped the motor and gently suggested it might be better if the guy didn't have his kit so evident?

how could you have stopped him?

Best keep ya pecker out, no one likes a 'bizzy body'. He probably been doing it for years & knows the score ;)

Why would you have stopped him? are you the old bill? is it your farm? is it your permission? did you note the number plate and speak to land owner? or were you thinking of suggesting best practice to him?

He looked like he was about to pull out on to the A90 trunk road.
basically between him and the flow of traffic was a 2.0m wide verge and a public footpath.
So do you think this is a good advert for shooters then???

perhaps he was waiting for you to pass so he could just turn round and go back up the track, glass houses and rocks ,

reach in your glove box for your chill pills :stir: hey bud if he wants to risk a rozza catching him let him.i would smile and think nutter nothing more

Was he on the A90 or was he on private land close to the A90?

What reason do you have for taking a special interest in this, are you in the police, do you have any standing which makes you feel you should intervene?

And as already asked if he got confrontational when approached what was your plan then?

I just might have phoned the police to inform them that there is a sniper with a rifle next to the A90 and waited to see the fireworks

Are you for real?

And this course of action would of course have been a great advert for shooting and shooters.......

And what happens if he were reported as a danger.
There's another statistic against shooters and another stone by which the government can hit us with.
I take it that you would be happy with that?

I have never had any of my gear on public display let alone so that hundreds can see as they pass on the road so don't go there.

Hi Lucky,
Caught between a rock and a hard place. I think everyone agrees with you that it wasn't a very good advert for shooting but what would you have done if the "culprit" took offence at the PC lecture.
i personally would have driven past and let matters take there course.

The nose of the Landy in fact the front wheels of the Landy were past the field boundary so technically he was already on public land.

We get it drummed into us never to have guns on display in public and yet I ask a question about what people would do and everyone's jumping to the guys defence.
So I take it by your replies everyone seems to be happy to let other people break gun laws

That's what I did but I did feel awkward that I should have done more for the good name of shooting.
However there seem to be a fair number on here that don't seem to care if shooting has a good name or not!!

Ok so here's what I would have done.....I'd have driven on past thinking to myself 'hmmmm that's not very bright' later once home of probably have posted a thread on a forum telling people what I'd seen and why I didn't think what I'd seen was very bright nor a terribly good advertisement for shooting sports to the wider public.

What I wouldn't have done was consider stopping and sticking my nose in, with a good likelihood of the situation then escalating into something bigger. I would never have considered calling the police and 'shopping' a fellow shooter for what sounds like a minor slip up. And above all else I would never have suggested I would do either of the aforementioned approaches on an internet forum, hth. ;)

These guys were just going about their business and someone poked their beak in and caused trouble for them also.:cuckoo:

I will frequently walk out of my front door with a rifle slung over my shoulder or a shotgun broken over my arm. I shoot some local land two sides of a small A road and I'm not going to slip the gun to cross the road, It sits (unloaded, obviously) in the passenger foot well resting against the door. You could likely see the moderator.

99.9% of the general public wouldn't even know what they were looking at.

What gun laws have been broken?
