Hi Guys

looking to get a better tracking harness, would probably prefer a leather one, as I use leather leashes that have worked out well, niggeloh do a nice synthetic that is quality

any ideas of locating a quality synthetic or leather harness from stock or made up

Any info greatly appreciated

Are you buying the harness for you or your dog? A £10 to £15 harness will work just as well as a £60 Niggeloh And as long as the harness fits OK will see your dog out.

Hi Jagare

Niggeloh every time, harness will outlast the dog as indestructible as they come, proven reliability.Quality costs a bit more but buy only once as you won't need to replace it

I'm going to be doing them soon. I've also just got some Biothane for leads and collars, will be having a go at a harness for my mutt in it to see how it goes. I made a quick cross body lead to take him stalking on a dairy farm, got covered in it - wiped down easily.

It doesn't feel as nice as leather, and it's a bit stickier but I can see the potential.

Well you would say that Niggeloh are the best harness when you sell them ;).

Thanks for the advert, but I will only sell high quality equipment that has a proven track record either tried by myself or testers that have the instruction to try and wear out /break the gear, only Niggeloh replacements have been due to dogs chewing the harness/leash,could also point out that we have a leather harness under test at the moment as well as the K9 make.Would also recommend the Artus harness as equipment that is pocket friendly.Biothane can be heavy and expensive but is very neglect friendly. You will note that my company was not mentioned and I was giving an opinion and I will stand by that until I find a better or equivalent quality product.

I have two of these harness, got one for when the dog was 4 months and is now in a size 4 which should be her adult size, they are very well made and I use mine on an all most daily baises, my friends on the continent also use then and they are doing many 100's of tracks per year.
I know cheap normally means rubbish but not in this case they are strong, slightly padded, high fizz and don't seem to impede the dog in any way.
but at the end of the day we all pays our money and makes our choices.

Gotta stick up for kit here as ive dealt with him on three occasions and on two of them he steered me to something just as practical but less money so feel your comment is unfair
regards
Jimmy

Genuine question I don't have a fancy Germany dog .

Gents question my spaniels track without a problem walk behind me when I'm stalking ,why do you need a tracking harness, I'm puzzled a little surely you don't have to stalk with the dog on a lead ??

Because they do it like that on the continent WS !!!!
see ya soon pal.

Jimmy

Despite Jimmy giggling at his reply ;):D

There are a few reasons for a harness. It puts the strain on a part of the dog that can take it, its shoulders and chest as opposed to its neck with a collar. And when these dogs are 'on' they really can pull! It makes it far easier for fitting a tracking collar when the dog needs to be allowed off the lead. Also, should the dog inadvertently get away from you with a collar on, there is no chance of it getting a branch inside it and if throttling itself. A friend of mine once lost a cocker like that, must have been horrible for the dog.

My dog accompanies me everywhere when stalking, off a lead. Walks to heel, sits and stays, lies down under a high seat. When she is required to follow a beast she knows if the tracking kit comes out its a completely different thing she is about to be asked to do. You can see the switch in her demeanour.

Some of these hounds can go 90lbs+ and have the strength to prove it. Even my bitch yanks me along through the Sitka and she will be about 75lbs(ish). That's better against a harness than a collar and lead...

If you want a harness then look at what is getting used by the ones who use them. Not.
buy the posers who just want there dog to look the part.
You know the type all the gear and no Eye Deer
PS I use a tracking collar my bitch is only 25-30 lb
