Supporters club

I’m starting to think there may be mileage in “Supporter” grading as in bronze, silver and gold as this red badge is already looking somewhat unexceptional!

Done....but I'll be wanting my money back if all the Admin folk disappear off to live the high life in the Bahamas on the proceeds of their ill-gotten gains :-D

Seriously folks, well done for setting this up. It is great to be able to put something back into a Site that has brought so much pleasure, education and enlightenment.

Now you come to mention it JAYB has been splashing out on new vehicles lately :suss:

Seriously though, I don't mind admitting I was a bit sceptical about the whole thing to begin with when John first came up with the idea but it's great to see the positive reception from the site now and thank you to all our new Supporters! :thumb:

This may not be the place to raise this idea - in which case please feel free to delete this Post - but have you thought of the following?

On BritishBlades (and sorry, I know I mention them a lot but they are the only other forum I belong to) they have a members section, which you can only access if you are a supporter. On this members section you get access to things like discount codes for a number of retailers (for example Heinnie Haynes), as well as group buys, competitions and what they call passarounds, where a member can donate stuff they no longer need and another member can take it, or an item of equipment might be shared for review or testing, etc. To think of an SD example, say a supporter had a spare scope that they didn't want to sell but were happy for another member to use, they might make it available in this section.

This doesn't stop every member from being able to read and contribute to 99% of the threads, but it does offer some degree of benefit for those who help support the site.

If you think the above is stupid and would be too divisive, it was just an idea. If you think it's brilliant, it's my idea.;)

We did float the idea of having a members section back when John first proposed this scheme and it was met with.... well let's just say the idea didn't go down too well. The general feeling was that it would cause a 'them and us' type situation.

I absolutely get that, and that would be a situation I'd be wary of too. It doesn't seem to have happened on BritishBlades, but then again they don't have the same volume of threads that are quite so contentious!

Well done lads, there are 33 of you at this point in time, we are on our way - To somewhere warm I'm planning
