Oh I think this site has helped many out over the past years, don't you?

Hi Malc,

Without a doubt SD has been, and still is a fantastic information resource for all Deer Stalkers & Managers, as you know Jelen Deer Services have always supported SD.

From a business point of view, SD has been a source of new business for many service providers, Jelen Deer Services included.

From an advertising point of view, it is certainly one of the most cost-effective advertising medias available in the deer stalking sector. Anybody wishing to sell training, services and products for deer stalking would be well advised to sign up to an advertising package with SD.

You guys have done a good job. Keep up the good work Malc & team.

Regards,

Mike

Never heard of it! How/where do I sign up?

Thank you for your gracious remarks Mike. I would like to think that all our advertisers get good value and good service from us and give it back to our membership.

I would add and agree that the SD site is indeed very good value for money for our advertisers, many of whom have thrived with the new business the site has bought to them. Also the site has helped many new stalkers out and many charities, and also started the bursary scheme, SD being the leader in heading this programme up on the web. Apart from being informative and helpful we have also helped and encouraged many to raise funds for many worth while causes, all of which shows that there is still a lot of good people out there.

So its not all about people advertising on here, of course it helps with the site costs, and maintenance. I like to think that people give back more to the sport and to those that are coming into the sport. Its not all about who is the best.

As my old dad would often comment when he was alive, they ain't made a man or a women yet that knows everything.....................and they never will.

How very true Malc,

It is in all our interests to encourage newcomers into the sport, I don't think anyone can argue with the positive contributions that the SD team have fronted with the site. With the commitments that many SD members have made to help newcomers into deer stalking, then newcomers and youngsters are far luckier than we were when we were trying to get into the sport many years ago.

One SD member in particular (I. Farticus) single-handedly helped at least a dozen new stalkers into deer stalking absolutely free through our Free Stalking for Newcomers Scheme last year. Our EIC is designed to provide free information to our members - but its open to everyone. and it is easy for people to forget that we are all on the same side.

Your Dad was right Malc.

And that reminds me of something. ………

I knew everything there was to know about deer and deer stalking long before I even shot my first deer - in my early days, I read every deer stalking and deer book cover to cover, several times, and I knew everything there was to know about about the subject ……….. Until I shot my first deer! …….. It was at that moment that I realised I knew feck all …. (the face full of gut contents helped reinforce that!)

I am proud to say that after so many years in the profession, I - along with everyone else - am still learning!

Hi Davie,

I can certainly help you with some of the information you require. It is not uncommon for successful professional companies to work together on partnering arrangements. Whilst we would not be willing to disclose any details of a commercial nature between Jelen and West Highland Hunting, I can tell you that both parties are currently working on several exciting new projects that will become apparent in the months to come.

One exciting development is certainly the greater opportunity for UK and overseas sportsmen to have access to some of the finest quality deer hunting both North and South of the border.

Niall and I realised some time ago that our two companies were very similar in lots of ways, not least our commitment to professionalism and outstanding customer care, and it has indeed been the corner stones of our professional working partnership. Also it became apparent to both of us that the more visibility our respective companies had in the industry, the more of a 'target' we became.

Niall and I share many qualities. We are both jointly and severally committed to raising the standards of wild deer management and associated training throughout the UK, but also our 'immunity to criticism' has been a crucial factor in allowing both companies to focus on the important positive elements of the profession.

Certainly the alliance between Jelen and West Highland Hunting means that through a pooling of knowledge and professional expertise, we are able to offer not only quality services throughout every sector of deer and wildlife management, but that we are able to pass this knowledge on through professionally based, approved training supported by LANTRA and The UHI.

Ardnamurchan is a peninsula - almost an island in itself - offering an ideal maritime climate, perfect for deer and other wildlife. This in itself has certainly helped Red deer in the area to out-perform many other populations throughout Scotland in terms of body weight and antler development, but the real influence has been though the rigorous selective management of Red deer in the area. Ardnamurchan's elevation to become one of the premier sporting estates in Scotland is testament to Niall's extensive professional experience in this field.

You ask where the wild goats came from and the 'Monster stags'. Wild goats have been in the Lochaber and West Argyll area since the Bronze Age. The wild goats on the Ardnamurchan peninsula are nothing new to that part of Scotland.

The 'Monster Stags' you speak of date back to the 1890's, when introductions of deer from Eastern Europe, and some of the prominent parks throughout England helped improve genetics. It was common to introduce new blood from English parks around that time, in fact the deer on the Island of Rhum and surrounding islands are believed to have originated from Warnham park.

If you need any further information, then you could sign up for one of our excellent courses! :D

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Mike.
