The people's republic of Scotland

I get the feeling that the Nationalists will be laughing at the thought of "England", Westminster, The Tories, etc. suffering a financial s**t storm, in the event of a Yes vote.

Do they realise that independence will not happen on the 19th.September. It will be only after a long and acrimonious divorce settlement.

Until then, Scotland will be on board "Train UK", hence they will not escape the train wreck.

I despair at the " I want a better future for my kids", comments.

How can voting for a blind, deaf, leap into the dark, be the answer?

I cetainly wouldn't take a gamble like that with the future of my kids, and anyone doing so is, in my opinion, both selfish, naive, and downright foolish in the extreme.

I guess that makes me a "NO" voter. :D

Steve.
More clarity than some can cope with in wishland

What Chasey said +1!
Don't doubt that if there was a yes vote Scotland would survive in one form or another, but at what cost to us all in the uk and I'm not just referring to economic? Damn sure it exceeds any gain made by a few for voting yes. I certainly don't have all the facts and figures and neither does any of the politicians, statistics can be interpreted/massaged to say anything you want them to, the rest is just hot air. We should be looking to improve our ties/relationship with our neighbours (not just RoUK) but further afield too, not dismantle them through pride, dodgy statistics, selective history and bluster.

im gonna stick my neck out here a bit.... bound to be someone I pi55 off ....nowt new there....

I know that the view from our English brethren side of thing is that the scots hate the English.... and im sure there are ...ive worked with co-scot colleagues that astounded me with the venom ....

but....

we aint all like that.... my wife is English..... I have English colleagues that I prefer over some of my fellow scots colleagues....

ill put my very basic laymans tilt on it

I don't hate the English ..... but we hate, or don't like shall we say, what the government has done to Scotland historically ...im not citing particulars here or getting into slanging matches

I think very basically a lot of folk "up here" just want to get the chance to decide things for ourselves

There is more sympathy with that attitude than you might imagine , we all get ****ed off with the self seeking ,self serving Muppet show in Westminster ,and don't get me started on the EU - with their straight bananas and under powered vacuum cleaners , but the point is the gov't - wherever they sit , whoever they are, are still the gov't and swapping one set for another with a blind leap of faith without truly knowing the full consequences is some sort of madness.

It pi**es me off that some folk here can't name a single Munro, have done bu**er all traveling in Scotland and can list loads of pubs consider themselves to be "real" Scots when I have English friends who live here and who havd "done" all the Munro's and travelled widely in Scotland and they get attitude from the "real" Scots.
My morning rant :)

Just found a positive to all of this independence discussion. As it turned up a notch on the serious level this week it devalued the pound so I saved nearly $100 on my monthly transfer back to the Uk. Please keep talking it up :)

What, England with no oil? Can't let that happen!!

England has some of the largest on-shore oil reserves in Europe. The Purbeck region in Dorset has been extracting oil for 50 years. Furthermore our reserves are almost completely untapped rather than near depletion; its just a matter of finding the public and political will to get on with it. Scotland, I am hoping, will galvanise that will in a week's time.

Loads of gas rigs off Norfolk.
I worked on a seismic survey ship late 70's and we did a lot of work in the North sea...most probably South of any line that may be drawn. It's out there.
We also did a lot of work West of Shetland. The Atlantic swell and tail end of storms there make it a difficult extraction area so the companies will leave it until it suits them....not Salmond.

:scared: Well there all on there way up north instead of prims question time. Two little to late one thinks and just Panic measure. Don't worry the scots will not let the English down on the 19th.Because we know that you have always backed us up in times of trouble.

do you mind taking them hostage or something ? we don't want them back

Re Rosyth, these could one day be regarded as "the good old day's"....

BBC News - Queen names new Royal Navy aircraft carrier in Rosyth

Not a hotbed of Yes voters there I would say.
I wonder what Salmond see's them building if they lose the UK market and compete against the rest of the world.

The French don't have many scruples when it comes to business...

Why Is France Building Warships For Russia? | VICE News

Maybe Salmond will start to court the Russians, he doesn't have many scruples either.

ps... I'm planning to be on the Forth bridge to see her sail out when she's finished.
As the Stones song goes..."this could be the last time".
I hear there are some very good yards in England

I was in south west Scotland stalking yesterday, out of the sixteen signs that I seen which one to vote only one said yes. Looks like some Scottish farmers don't want to be independent.

Hmm , just wait until the residents of the Orkney's and Shetland's get tired of financing the 'southern' ned's giro's (or whatever the new name will be for their handouts) and see what happens then ...........

Most need hand outs as you call them Wiven because the English stole there jobs a political move that kept the Tory's in power. With a total disregard for the none tory voters north of the border.
Some successful parasites can disable there host over a long period. Don't be frightened of change as the Tory's have said we need to work together to get a good solution.

Don't be frightened of change, don't look at the markets, don't listen to Robert Peston, don't worry about £2billion getting wiped off Scottish companies in a single day on the Stock market, don't...

You missed out a few don't there 6 pointer.

"Don't be frightened of change"... try telling that to the guy's in Rosyth re my above post.

ps...on second thoughts...don't

;)

That would be those non viable 'heavy industries' that were being heavily subsidised by the taxpayer to keep them going would it ?
And if you had not noticed most of those type of industries disappeared south of the border as well , but hey , you just keep worrying about Scotland - causes for worry are just about to multiply ten fold so it should keep you occupied .

Here a thought for you... All the industry talent right across the board will bugger off where the market goes leaving behind what's left to crumble turning the new Scotland into a land of benefits and backward sliding disaster.

At least the new British airforce won't have to go as far to make food drops as it usually does. Wonder if the aid package will include marsbars and buckfast for the yes voters core

I think Scotland has the right to decide, On saying that if its a no vote the rest of the UK should have a referendum on the powers Westminster are handing over
