This is West Dunbartonshire polling station - today ,but i suppose the No campaign people have done worse - have they Eddie ?

Seems to be 1 - 1 at the moment

"Police Scotland have confirmed a 67-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with an alleged assault on a female following an incident at Shettleston Community Centre, a polling place in Amulree Street, Glasgow, at around 13:00 BST.

The woman is believed to come from Merseyside. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Earlier, a man was arrested outside a polling station in Clydebank after an alleged assault. Police Scotland said the man was detained on Faifley Road at 08:30."

If I had my way anyone caught defacing any property at any time would be made to clean it up with solvents but without any gloves or face masks - don't think they would be keen to do it again

The Yes have won either way.
If its a No then all ills that befall Scotland from now on will be due to this and the English will never hear the end of it.
If its a Yes then I'll be doing my hardest along with all the other Yes voters, to make sure things work out even if it does take a couple of years!

All thoughts of politics to one side Eddie and regardless of whichever side the moron responsible supports that is a terrible thing to see on a polling station on election day in a democracy , truly , truly sad.

Just reading the BBC news on tinternet

"Online abuse directed at tennis star Andy Murray after he declared support for Scottish independence has been described as "vile" by Police Scotland.

Murray tweeted on Thursday morning that "no campaign negativity" had "totally swayed" his view on the issue.

Some users of the site sent him hate messages, with one referring to the Dunblane massacre in 1996.

Murray was a pupil at Dunblane Primary school when gunman Thomas Hamilton shot 16 children and their teacher."

I am hoping for the right result for the future of Scotland, but I have been alternately dumbfounded and depressed at the intellectual illiteracy demonstrated so eloquently...not least in this forum....I am hoping that we will still have some grown-ups to keep us right into the future.

What I had taken for reasonably intelligent bods have demonstrated time after time their inability to grasp basic economic and political realities, we can but hope the false prospectus as peddled to them by wee eck is kicked away into the long grass; let the rest of us; that is the not so gullible, continue to keep Scotland the great country it is.

All depends on your point of view and unfortunately we don't seem to have a common one:cry:

Social Cohesion.

It's what the Nordic countries value highly and what has helped them to literally survive the pretty tough climes they have.
They are top of an international list.
They don't all have oil, just Norway, but they have all managed pretty well despite meagre resources.

When oil came to Norway, and Shetland, and Orkney, they quickly realised that it was a get it right/one shot deal.
They both had the inherent social cohesion of their communities and got it right.
Despite being just fishermen and sheep farmers they did a great job of getting the best deals out of the oil companies who themselves are pretty tough cookies.

The Norwegian education minister was asked in an interview recently what was their top priority."Social cohesion" was the reply.
Pretty odd I thought at the time but it soon made sense because it doesn't really matter what resources you have if your society isn't right.
By the way, their academic standards are very high internationally.

So what social cohesion do we have? Hmmm, tricky one that, but lets face it, we've had enough to see us this far in the UK.
Norway and Sweden had come to the point of war before they split.
Whatever we do have will be further stretched after the result of the referendum is announced because a high proportion will not get what they want.

We are already a pretty fractured country. There's your lowlander, your highlander, you islander, your Orkneys, your Shetland, and as part of some or all of those there's your gaelic speaker and I apologise if I've missed anyone out there.
Further divisions are, catholic, protestant, immigrants of all nations and then there's the clans and don't even go there. Well ok then, my mum was a McDonald and she still held a grudge against the Campbells.
How am I doing?, get the picture? or rather the jigsaw.

Whichever way the vote goes one thing is for sure, things will never be the same; more factions have been introduced.

If it's No then some folk will have their dreams snatched away and will forever hold a grudge as Scots do.
I won't say as only Scots can do 'cos that wouldn't be fair on say Sicilians:).

If it's Yes it'll start a roller-coaster going and a lot of folk will not be happy 'cos they would have rather have stayed on the bus.
Some folk who currently have jobs and who have or had a reasonable expectation of keeping them may see themselves losing those jobs due to folk who haven't got a job and have no expectation of having one.
Everyone is entitled to a vote and one vote is no more or less powerful than the other.
It can be a bit difficult to see that though when the blame game starts.

Personal opinion here, life is a lot better when folk help each other and dividing into smaller fractions doesn't help that.
Check out what's going on around the world as a comparison.

The big question is, which ever way it goes, how are we going to get our society right?.
Will a "lottery win" of oil solve the gap between folk in say Maryhill and those just up the road in Bishopbriggs ? (big opening here for funny comments, I know).

Whatever happens, all the best to all here, North and South of the only border I personally want to see.....the current one.

I suppose that if its a yes, then at least I'll be able to open a Belgium style booze warehouse at Carlisle and make my fortunes. Might even sell airguns too.

I am following this through the night.

I am feeling very optimistic, which is unusual for me.

Not because of any personal bias about a preferred result, but because I hope that this will have been cathartic for all concerned.

A lot of suppressed stuff has come out. Almost everyone that I know has had an interest and an opinion. Almost everyone with a vote has voted.

The result will be unambiguous.

It will be a defining moment.

I never thought that I would say this, but am glad that it has happened. It will clear up a lot of stuff that has been festering for generations. Provided that we all accept and live with and move forward whatever the outcome.

Surely we can do that ?

I do hope so.

Ok seems to be a No - well done.

But don't say I didn't warn you the SNP will be in power for a considerable number of years.
All the issues about land reform, gun control and deer control will now be brought to the forefront and don't be surprised about what restrictions are put in place.
