Ballistic tipped bullets?

Slightly off topic, but I've often read comments along the lines of "there are ballistic tips and there are Nosler ballistic tips", with people inferring nosler's are somehow more explosive. Is this true or just a load of pish? I'm talking deer bullets here not varmint rounds...

That's a great link. Cheers FT! I've never seen that site before but it's now bookmarked because I'd like to go back to it and read all the pages! Neck shots look pretty hard but taking the shot a little further forward and smashing up the shoulders sounds to be a good way to get them down quickly.

i use Hornady V max on Roe, yes its a varmint round, yes it can cause alot of damage if it hits bone (it causes alot of damage if it doesent) but accuracy is the reason behind my using them. No other bullet head performs aswell through my rifle than the Hornady range of Bt's. i No nothing about BT's performance on anything bigger than Roe so i read this post with great interest.

I note seeing factory .270 win rounds loaded with a 130gr Hornady Bt, aimed as a medium game round, i wonder how efficient / controled thier expansion is?

I have used Nosler Ballistic Tips pretty much exclusively, I have never had a single problem. They put deer on the grass quick, period!

As i understand it the the V max is a varmint round that has explosive expansion, after seeing what it does to charlie its not suitable for deer.

I use .22-250 50 grain Norma V-Max on Fox & have used them on a couple of Muntjac ......... never again!

Unerringly accurate but massive meat damage.

I'm a non-reloader, and these Norma 50gr are the only rounds I've found that my .22-250 shoots into less than half and inch at 100yds.

They super for foxes, but I've never shot a deer with them. I had imagined that it would probably be a bad idea in any case.

I suppose if the likelyhood arises that I might shoot deer with this calibre I'll have to find a rather more robustly-bulleted load which the rifle is happy with.

Use 165gn nosler in 30.06 excellent performance on roes and not at all explosive, use 75gn v-max in .243 definatley explosive wouln't want to use on deer unless neck shooting and then they might have an advantage never tried it though, doubt i will.
