What do red folders, arrows and stars mean on topics

A Fick question. I see a number of threads that end up with lots of stars - how do these get lots of stars etc.

others get a red folder - what does that mean

and some get locked - that's cause JayB /CSL/ sikamalc are acting as teachers in a primary school playground.

But it what's going on with the others?

Red folders are 'hot topics' i.e. lots of replies and/or views

Stars are where people have rated the thread using the "Rate this thread" link above the first post in every thread.
