Setting up Yukon Photon

quick tip if you look at the front flap /cap with the tiny hole in the centre 3/4 inch section pushes out it makes the focus quite a bit better cheers david

if zeroing in the dark,or as its getting dark, get some reflective strip off an old hi-viz vest, shines like rabbits eyes with the ir on,as above for the focus or buy a cheap flip up off e-bay and drill a 20mm hole in or whatever size suits your eye(normally up to around 22mm),really helps focus but narrows fov, a doubler also transforms the unit

Hi all,
Just unpacked my new Photon from Scott Country.
All looks good but it would have been a good idea for them to make a wee video of how to set it up.
There is a small white tube, like conduit, in the kit. Can't figure out where that goes.
Can anyone help ?.
Thanks

It would be nice that some company made a nice youtube clip how to mount, zero, ...... a Yukon Photon. Always much clearer than any manual on paper.

I seriuosly consider getting one + doubler + IR T 50 for foxing on a 223. As I am not English speaking, a video is always much more informative.

Agreed re the video, good idea.
Thanks for the tips guys. Another photon user told me about the reflective tape idea, works well.

It looks like the sw30 mount is just not compatible with the Reed picatinny rail I got from Opticswarehouse so that's a combo to avoid if you are going the photon route.
I'm pleased with the photon though, no complaints. No doubler but the performance as-is is ok and I like to keep it simple.
I'll need to contact Scott Country re the mount as I did explain what it was going on.

ps..I don't use it in daytime, the plan is to swap it with a day scope using Warne qr-w mounts.

Scott Country are only interested in selling you the kit and nothing else, I wanted to buy an item last week at trade and was told only if you are one of our listed suppliers and the prat on the other end wouldn,t budge. I told him that in the previous 2 weeks I had sorted out problems with 3 rifles using their units which would otherwise have been returned to them, checked over, returned to a peed off customer who has to go through the problem again, he wouldn,t budge so I told him he is now on my merde list and I am going to tell anyone else with a problem to send the kit back to them and make sure it goes on one of the forums so they are still on the merde list.
The Photon is not a bad unit for the price, I have one of the older ones with the turrets, no problem to zero, but it didn,t have that tube in the box. You have to get a mindset that it is not a normal scope and what you are going to do is completely different but once you get your head round it, its good kit. I have a 243 I built set up with a Picatinny rail and a set of mounts each (same) for a scope and the Photon and change as I need, I torque up each screw to the same setting on the mounts when I change over and the difference in zero is never more than 3/4 inch out and pretty well drops in by the third round, sounds fiddly but I thought I would try it and it works well.

Thank you for your post "Brora260", the person you spoke to was correct in informing you that we cannot supply you an item "at trade" as we are a retailer only of all our brands apart from ATN.

We do not supply ANY Yukon or Pulsar products at trade, we are not the UK distributor for these products therefore only Thomas Jacks will be able to furnish a trade enquiry for this range.

If any customer has an issue with a product they have purchased from us, such as a faulty device, then we will of course be more than pleased to handle their return and offer a repair or replacement service if covered by the manufacturers warranty. Our customer service is second to none, and you being irate because a member of staff correctly informed you that we cannot supply you an item "at trade" is confusing?

We are the UK distributors for ATN Products, and as the person you spoke to correctly informed you, we only supply ATN Retailers who have existing trade accounts with us.

Yours Faithfully

Paul Stewart
Sales Manager

So you come on here and moan that a company who you do NOT have a trade account with would not sell you stuff at trade? So, if I ring you and ask to buy something from you at trade you are going to sell it to me at trade? Brilliant - what is your phone number, I hate paying retail prices too, so looks like I can just shop with you and expect trade prices on everything.................No? didn't think so?! - so why expect them to sell you stuff at trade?

That all seems a bit unfair to Scott Country, why should they supply a trade price to somebody ? There not the importers for that product Thomas jacks are !
They only have the import rights to ATN, SC are just another retailer trying to earn a living. so why should they discount ?

As for your comment "Scott Country are only interested in selling you kit and nothing else" thats completely untrue ! they offer a fantastic service, many people will confirm that... ME being one of them !

Seems to me that you were just trying to get the product cheaper and thought you could try your luck with Scott Country..

That is a frankly outrageous post to make. I have had the pleasure of buying from Paul and the team at Scott a country on a number of occasions and cannot think of another company which takes more pride in their customer service. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they certainly care more about their customer satisfaction than just selling you a product.

Well said.... outrageous thing to say about Scott Country...

Seriously..you want trade because you helped some people out??? Do you have the same attitude with car dealers if you replaced your mates faulty light bulb??? This is a simple case of "I want". Perhaps you would have played things much better by demonstrating assistance through this site, assisting in recommending products supplied by scott country....being little more positive then perhaps the dealer would have considered additional discounts to you for products you buy...but to come on here and whine like a baby because you didn't get what you wanted and ignorantly thought your were entitled to hasn't helped your case one bit...in fact you have only made yourself to look a fool.

This is not the place, never has been, to air your dirty laundry...now every dealer advertising on here will perhaps think twice about supplying you for fear of being "unfairly" and publicly chastised....because you didn't get what you wanted.

sigh!

I had a similar thing. I called up PC World and ask them for a trade price on an Apple Mac. The complete to$$er on the phone had the temerity to insist that they couldn't give me a trade price as I had to be an actual trade customer with a trade account to get trade rates. I told him that I had fixed some computers for mates, but it didn't cut any ice.

Anyway, I am going to rubbish them every chance I can. You see if I don't!

You told them you wanted to buy the item at trade....... you got a much politer response from then than you would of from me.... I want to win the lottery - anyone have Camelots number please...

Maybe we should start a thread of companies, you can just phone and get "TRADE" discounts, i mean whats the harm.... companies don't have overheads and salaries to pay.

Anybody have any suggestions who we all phone first ?

It seems to me that whenever there is a complaint about Scott Country on close examination the complainant is more often than not the one at fault. I can only add to what others have said that whenever I have had dealings with Scott Country the service I have received has been second to none. Requests for help in sorting out problems with setting up night vision etc. have always been prompt and very efficient, in fact I think that Paul Stewart has a quite remarkable knowledge of the subject.
As a retailer they have to be certainly one of, if not, the best.

+1 to this. Just take a look at their FEEFO Customer Satisfaction ratings and consider the overall business, not just that of SD - and these little 'storm in a teacups' are nothing more than noise and I guess inevitable when you deal in the quantities these guys do - at some point you're going to get one.

Paul takes his CSat extremely seriously and I know that on top of the 'return debacle' in the last week or so, he will have burned a lot of emotional energy, worrying about his customers. I say he should not take instances such as these to heart (much as it is a credit to him that he gives each case such merit) and move on delivering excellent customer service to the other 99.99% who are delighted by the service they receive. While it is never nice to be 'in the news', it is correct that there is no such thing as bad publicity...others on here have lived by that for a considerable length of time...!!

Apologies to the OP for what has become a hijack of the original intent of the thread.

Unfortunately, Private Fraser has died since starting this thread. It was a Photon XT 4.6 x 42.
