Hunting knife

One that is sharp, curved (almost Persian profile) for skinning, won’t rust in the wet and isn’t too thick a spine. Beyond that it’s personal preference and steel choice, so many options and price points. But if I have to choose, I have a Phil Wilson collaboration that I always favour for large game.

Depending on species I have 3 Danum blades in different sizes good all round from a Red to a Rabbit and all in between and will hold an edge, I settled on these after trying many others, find the one that suits you including the grind, all mine are flat grind which I can sharpen to a terrific edge when needed but only generally need a strop just on a regular basis

4 to 6 inch blade, sharpe, fairly narrow, I find EKA swing blades are too thick. I actually have a nice buck knife that I love. Not expensive, but nice to handle and use.
I use it mainly on muntjac and roe. Ideal for tunnelling.

There’s a guy selling kydex sheaths for this knife on eBay. Would be easy to assume it’s no good considering the price but having tried all sorts over the years I think this is pretty much perfect. Blade profile is spot on, holds an edge well, ergonomic and non slip handle, easy to sharpen.

A newly acquired Manor's Gillie is by far the superior knife in my small collection... its fantastic.

The maker, Mike Smith also made/makes my farrier hoof knifes I use every day & they are without doubt the best on the market.

That said.... I'm never without a Mora, in my kit or in the truck... for the money, they are hard to beat and do all the dirty work, legs, heads and the odd rib cage if required (99% I don't split the chest).

A good friend of mine made this set for me about twenty years ago. The handles are from a small cull buck I took back then and the sheath is made from his hide. The set resides in my hunting pack. That being said, a Mora resides in the same pack. When I first started hunting 40 years ago, I was given a Buck 110 and it still holds a special place on my belt. Shortly before the Christmas shopping season starts here in the US, there are ridiculous deals on Mora knives and I’ve found that they have made there way into every vehicle, pack and drawer to which I have access

Mora Forst clipper all you’ll ever need

Great knives but I just can't get on with a Skandi grind, I always have one as a back up but rarely used
I use my Driftwood walker knife these days which was kindly modified from skandi to flat grind by Stuart Mitchell
