22 lr subsonic recommendations

Just doing some testing with a new to me 20" T1x and 40gn S&B HP were the best as well.

Aquila HP 38gn were great for lateral but had a bit too much vertical string for my liking. About 80fps spread over 10 which could explain it.

Eley Subs were a waste of time. Poor consistency over the chrono and poor groups
Exactly the same

Been using Eleys for a very, very long time, no issues or complaints…. Whichever brand you decide to go for buy a block as there can sometimes be a slight but noticeable difference…. BTW I shoot Suppressed CZ 452 and very rarely clean it.

That's a good session on the squirrels mate😉👍

65 metres

My CZ 452 will reliably drill Squirrels anything up to 50yds using Eleys, and on the 25m range it’s 10 rounds inside a 1” circle…..looking at your target sheets either your setup is wrong or it’s you, the grouping is Sh*te ….should be much better than that before you go shooting at live animals.
Zero 1” high at 60yds… see how you get on.

🤦
Many assumptions in the post above Willow Bank. The picture is to highlight the difference in ammo nothing more.
Which was the question in the Author's post originally!!!
The gun wasn't Zero'd with any of the ammo in the picture hence why all groups are high and right, until the last 3 shots bottom right. Oh and those 3 shots are in a thumb nail at 71 yards 🤷

To be fair. The groups that are high and right are still quite poor if shot from a rested position.

It’s also odd that the group that is high and right and right is double what the group is after you say it was zeroed - zeroing shouldn’t alter the group size.

I would also recommend a smaller aim point as aiming at a 1 1/2” square won’t yield consistent results - better to use a 1/2” or smaller dot as an aim point.

Gixer

to give an example of why I say the groups in the photo you posted are a bit poor - these are 10 shots on each group at 25m when setting up a tuner brake - with a T1X (so nothing that fancy)

I didn't use my 22LR squirrel rifle during the Fall of 2025 as my 22 FAC rated air-rifle delivers far better 50-yard grouping than I can achieve with cordite unless using match-grade non-hunting ammo.

Sad but the reality of where we are with 22lr subsonic hunting ammo in the first quarter of the 21st-century.

same for me,tried cci subs this morning to see if they would be any good for rabbit control.

min speed was 1022 fps and max was 1100 fps, spread of 77 fps and shotgun type groups.

think ill stick with the airgun, spread of 6 fps doesnt seem so bad after the cci subs
