Back out to the new permission last night to try and get a better idea of the ground in the dark

Moved around a couple of spots and spotted a fox in the wood..got set up just as it moved into cover but could see enough of the side of its neck for an 80 yard shot.

Nice size dog and no 16 20260409_230714.webp

Looks a big lad 👍 Any deer on the new spot 😂
 I wish but alas still a good 30 minute drive for them to get there.

The ground is absolutely stunning ...mix of woodland and small fields ..loads of cover ...keeps me fit as you cant just stand and watch much as there is so much dead ground.

Seeing nothing on my hillside now for 4 outings. Shot 51 since this time last year so not surprising really.
No losses this year for the first time in Farmer’s recollection so happy bunny.
Of course that’s the job done - I am sure I will never see a fox on this ground again, like ever, really really ever….

Had a runner yesterday morning - annoyed with myself. Solid thwack with a 6.5-284 at about 100yds, dropped then flipped and got up and ran into some horrible thick gorse. Big splodge of blood and bone fragments at shot site so I definitely hit it hard but not a great blood trail after that. Hate losing them even though it's almost certainly dead within 50yds somewhere.

Yup, I always like to pick em up if poss.

Decided to finally work up a hand load for foxes with the 243... had a good deal on some 70 grain Sierra Blitzkings... 41.4 of N140, doing a gants knacker under 3,400fps... ideal as I have loads of the stuff!

Next to try it on intended quarry.

#16 & 17 new farm! Contrast in condition, both dog foxes, both came into the call very speedily!

My other perms have been quiet of late, and these longer days make it harder work when you've got a full day's shoeing to get after the following day 😅
