Best ear plugs for stalking

Hi, recently have adapted my 6.5 creedmoor moderator with a muzzle break and have been advised to wear ear protection when shooting, any suggestions on the ear plugs/protection whilst in the field?

I buy a big bag of Dewalt ones from Screwfix.

Peltor over ear muffs and foam in ear. You have one set of ears.

Personally I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to use a moderator, I would rather save my ears then worry about spoiling the lines of the rifle.
Nb, it is also something that I specify to anyone I take out. No moderator, no shooting, but I do have houses around a lot of my land.

The best ear plugs are Howard Leight "rhubarb n custards". Learn how to put ear plugs in properly, and just pop them in before you take a shot.

Any of the Peltor products work well, however for stalking I have been using the tactical TEP100 which not only cuts out the gun report but attenuates any surrounding sounds ie bird song. deer on the move, my hearing isn't the best as I came to hearing protection far to late but with these TEP100 I can hear things I would otherwise miss.
As I don't stalk now I could be persuaded to part with mine, boxed with new different sizes ear tips.

Wow these look very very high spec!

I have to say I prefer ear plugs to over ear for convenience and over ear muffs do interfere with my gun mount, especially clays.

my apologies, I have a dpt moderator with an extra baffle and muzzle break to reduce recoil.
I honestly have no idea why you would need to reduce recoil on a 6.5CM for stalking. How many shots are you expecting to take when out?? It is far from a thumpy calibre to start with and a moderator that needs ear protection is the stupidest idea I've ever come across.

Personally, I can't imagine wearing hearing protection when stalking (and missing out on all the wonderful sounds of the countryside) or having to faff with fitting ear plugs when you got on a deer. Ditch the muzzle break baffle and carry on...

Found out recently, hearing deteriorates from around age seven. It's made me much more careful as I'd assumed it would be from a lot later in life. If you can, I second plug and over ear combo, which I often do at the range.

Still trying to convince my wife regarding protecting our children's hearing at events like cinema/panto... I have foam plugs in my pocket pretty much as default these days.

Good if you need the additional sounds amplified, although the attenuation is still in line with foam plugs so protection level is similar to cheaper foam ones.

Second vote for the 3M Peltor electric in-ear plugs. Be aware that you can use different foam/silicone "tips" which affect the fit, but also the attenuation. I was able to use much higher-spec foam with mine than Mrs SinpleSimon can, due to not being able to fit the better ones in her ears. We now both have had custom-fit moulds made which fit the electronic part of the Peltor. I'll wear them all day when rough shooting or at the range. Amplification of natural sound is very good, speech is clear and you can almost forget you've got them in 👍🏼

Sorry what exactly is a "moderator with a muzzle break"? Moderators make things quieter and muzzle breaks make them louder again so surely having both would be counter-productive.

Both reduce recoil, so if you have the skills, surely you would just make a larger/heavier moderator. Or buy one.

Its a DPT moderator with their optional break attached.

While i agree with you on the muzzle break side of things, I understand fully why hes looking for ear protection.
Im guessing you dont suffer from tinnitus?
My ears ring all the time now, but you get used to it. If I fire a shot with a moderated rifle without ear protection, my tinnitus rings far louder, and at a different pitch for days, sometimes becoming unbearable. I wholeheartedly understand where hes coming from, something you cant relate to unless you suffer from it.
