#1164, One of the Five

I posted a photo yesterday of five recently finished knives, #1164 was one of that five.

Here it is.

I described it in that previous thread as a brand new pattern, is that true? Make your own mind up 😛

It is of course new but it is a heavily modified version of my YDS knife, modified in as much as it has been tinkered with around the ricasso area, it is shorter having a blade of 90mm in length and it is more slender.

It is nimble and light, it feels like a surgeons scalpel in hand 😬

This particular one started life at 3mm stock, as I showed in the tang tapering thread though, and this one having a tapered tang, none of that 3mm remains, I also have a couple coming through using 2mm stock. That is Kate Moss on a diet territory.

A few more photos...

Up until very recently I'd not handled either the Victorinox or Caribou 4" Rabbit knives, but since then have appreciated the blade dimensions - the Victorinox being a little narrower. Handles on both are designed for frequent 'larder' use and I believe both blades have a limited lifespan with regards to resharpening.

Of course, not comparing the above directly but, it does seem like a blade shape that many stalkers are finding all the more useful - less deep, especially at the tip. I can see a 2mm version also having a niche.

These have been on my mind, I started these before the little mods were made to the final design of the P90 and before I made the decision to create the LE, introductory offer run, so with a little lull in the LE build and whilst awaiting materials for the Triple Green X6 I decided to make them up, I went with a very different feel than the P90 LE run...

I went with Cocobolo...

Not finished yet, they will be tomorrow though, they'll be priced competitively too in an attempt to see them gone before the weekend.
