.17 hmr problems

I am thinking about taking action against Edger Bros ,as they failed in their duty off care , No warning notice ,No recall , replaced gun after a year lost shooting ,which I am selling and went back to 22mag,any thoughts guys , could be a group case. Will never use .17 hmr again.

So, in conclusion.....
Have the bad ammunition issues all gone away now?
Interested, as I was looking at asking for a 17HMR on my next variation.

I have a .17HMR and i've not had any issues and still have confidence in the rifle and ammunition.
Have the problems "gone away" - that's hard to qualify ... certailny, of late, there seems to be far fewer reports of any issues, if any (??)

I've had no problems with ammunition bought over the last 12 months, however, I suspect there is still a great deal of the old batches still out there because as far as I know there has been no recall of ammo.

I'm curious what would be the basis of your claim against Edgar Brothers, did you buy the "defective" ammunition directly from them?
Surely any perceived claim could only be made against the retailer who actually sold you the ammunition - in effect the person you had the contract with and even then you would need to prove negligence on their part,

Nearly all rimfire ammo is made by CCI. Different manufacturers specify the powder, heads and brass combinations they want and CCI follows the given recipe, and packages up the finished item.
So your litigation is against CCI then?

I’ve got a lot of hmr 17g and 20g bluetips and not had a problem with them so far, have they been recalled and no longer available?

I've had no problems with Winchester ammo whatsoever.
I've shot thousands of Winchesters through my Weihrach. Had a few complete non-fires, but not many, maybe 1 in 500 rounds at worst. But I get that with .22 cartridges as well. It's just a matter of a unevenly primed rim.
Split necks are common with HMR but do not affect consistency or accuracy in any way and I've never had a dangerous partial discharge with Winchesters.

I have tried Hornadys and I always thought there was a quality control issue with them because though for the most part they group marginally tighter than the Winchesters in my rifle, there would always be one wild flyer in every magazine. That isn't barrel harmonics or rifle/ammo compatibility, its a manufacturing issue. I could shoot a whole box full of Winchesters into a target and the grouping would remain pretty consistent.

I also tried a number of brands before settling on Hornady because, like you, that gave the tightest grouping in my rifle. But I agree that there have been inexplicable fliers on occasion. My experience is not as frequent as yours, but the margin of deviation when it does happen is alarming: 12cm off at 60m or so. In my rifle fliers happen once ever couple of hundred rounds or so.

I took to checking rounds when loading and never once spotted any obvious externally visible issue. I am guessing it must be a tiny powder charge variation.
