17 HMR

The other afternoon was sighting the CZ 455 .17 HMR when I felt something strange on chambering the new round. Carefully drew back the bolt and found that the bullet tip was just showing out of the neck of the cartridge case. All I can think of is that it must of happened when closing the bolt forward as it was alright when loaded in the mag. Could this be why some rounds are getting stuck in the barrel? Most/All the gasses going around the bullet before it enters the rifling . First time I have had any problems, this was a fresh batch of Hornady Vmax 17g

Checked the rest of the box, found another loose one, shop took them back and gave me 2 boxes of a different batch number. Needless to say checked them all and seem to be OK.
As you say could have been worse if I had just carried on.

Glad you sorted it, I've recently bought a box of hornsey 17g for the hmr and had some feeding issues, also tried some cci 17g hp's and whilst they shot half inch or so at 60 yards, I ended up single feeding them because they would feed! Well spotted

Don't suppose you know the batch number that was rejected do you??

Ive never had anything work well with Hornady boxed ammo in any of my calibres. Winchester & Remington has worked well.
