17 remington

if your going down the rebarrel road , make sure you get a 1/9 twist, because some 1/10 twist barrels dont stabablize some 25 gr bullets , good luck you will love it. dave.

buy the tikka get a good gunsmith to put a 1 in 9 twist barrel on it. and load up some 25 vmax. you will have a cracking foxing and vermin rifle

Agree, had My tikka rebarreled with a LW 1IN9 twist barrel and it shoots the 25gr vmax sweet.
Keep saying I need to dust it off and give it a go:D

Hello , im after a 17 remington , I know there are a few on Guntrader , 2 of which are tikka 590s , is this a good action if I was to get it rebarreled, I’m fairly knew to this area ? I don’t really want to have to rebarrel, preferably it would have a reasonable amount of barrel life left , if I was to go down the rebarrelling route , what would it cost roughly and how long would I have to wait ? Or does anyone have anything for sale or that they are thinking of selling ? Any help would be much appreciated , Thanks

Hi,
I would buy a new factory rifle as a first option. Second option for me would be a visit to a retailer selling a second hand one, someone that has a bore scope, or knows about “Provenance”.

If buying a doner rifle to rebarrel, check out the costs for this work beforehand.
Regards,Ken.

In my experience a new factory rifle is more of a lottery than a rebarreled donor. The quality of the barrels can be very variable. At least with a rebarrel you get to choose the best components for your own requirements and most reputable smiths will address a non shooter

Second that, only had good experience with re-barrelled rifles. In most cases a better product than a new factory rifle.

+1what srvet and ejg said, my friend years ago after shooting my 17rem vixen wanted one, and i got him a nice sako vixen for peanuts, the barrel was shot out, he got a new pacnor super match barrel in 1/9 twist and it is a tac driver, for £ 900 action and barrel, and at the time, a 17rem sako was £1475, there are plenty of donor actions out there, i would start of with a fresh new barrel always, at the recent british shooting show, sako were after £2200, for a 222 varmint rifle, regards dave.

Likewise.
My action was 450, barrel 725, 're blue 90 total 1265. Brand new Sako would have cost allot more.

Gets my vote as well. I had my Sako 222 rebarreled with LW stainless 1-9” barrel. It is the proverbial tack driver.

Thankyou for your replies , I will find an action and go from there , it will be a rifle that is used a lot so it’s probably worth the time and money to do it right , has anyone got any recommendations of gunsmiths they’ve used ? Thanks

steve Kershaw! Just had my first rebarrel done by him and he was excellent throughout, rifle looks like it will be a real shooter too...

Tikka m595 donor from my RFD plus the rebarrel came in under 900 quid, cerakote tipped it to just under 1100 but could have left that until later. All told it was less than a New T3

A bit late to the discussion I know (been doing my DSC-1) but it's worth considering the CZ527, as they made it chambered in .17 Rem.
A mate has one & it's a tack driver & well built like all CZ Brno rifles.
