1935 Jag up for auction in Aus.

Its not a Jag as its pre WW2 they were built by the Swallow Sidecar Company hence the SS name which was a no no after the war so they renamed it to Jaguar in Holbrooks, Coventry. I worked on the same site as a draughtsman when it later became Motor Panels Ltd. Nice car though.

Yeah SS would go down well post war lol!!’

I recall the Toyota MR2
Being renamed in France to MR for the obvious reasons (M-R-2 ie. Merde - ie, shjite)…although the French probably had it right !

BB I passed on what your reply was to an old mate here. He responded with.

In fact that is incorrect. It is a Jaguar. The Swallow Sidecar Company was split up in 1934 and (Sir) William Lyons formed SS Cars Limited. From that time on all the cars were SS Jaguars. It was in 1945 that the SS Cars Limited shareholders voted to change the name to Jaguar Cars Limited

Ah I stand corrected. In my modelmaking/patternmaking apprenticeship years at Humber Cars 1966-1970 there were a few old sweats there that had jobbed around making the ash frames for all these vehicles it was a hire and fire culture in Coventry depending on the workloads/orders.

And the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was, it is said, originally to be called the Silver Mist. Wouldn't have done much, that, for sales in then then West Germany.
