2024 squirrels, post them here.

Whole maize is best. I pick up cobs post harvest and dry them. Easy to split off maize. Dry whole maize infront of log burner and use in custom made feeders. Deadly.

Tonto on here kindly sold me his Anschutz 0.17 HMR last week, but I was missing my Weirauch HMR, until I saw how delightfully accurate Tonto's rifle is. He did say it was accurate.
These are two squirrels nailed today from 90 yards, and there were two more yesterday, all four being smack on target.
Thank you Tonto!

another 4 today. cooked the back legs and saddles of 17 into rillet on sat. ive never seen squirrels as fat as some of these, thought they were pregnant, massive swollen belly full of bright orange fat. rendered that fat down to mix with deer far for bird feeder.
minced the rest for the dogs

What do they taste like mate?

What do they taste like mate?
like a fatty rabbit or gamey pork sort of. fiddly to eat but with a few sliw cooking is good. ive bbq half grown ones, and made squirrel and chestnut sausages for my bros stag do.
i think they are worth trying, the fat is a weird colour on alot of them, bright orange. ill get a pick when i skin some more tomorrow

Have they been eating maize?
not seen maize in any quantity. peanuts, sunflower, mixed corn and a fat block. all in squirrel proof feeders but they have learn how to shake and spin them to dump the contents.
i quiet like the idea of using squirrel fat in a fat block for song birds, nice they are giving something back
