.204 vs .220

Never had a 204 so cant comment, had 22-250 for 28 years and 220 swift for 20years.I had 223 for a while but never took to it.Go with what you feel is best suited to you.

Tom, What bullet BC are you using for the 39SBK's mate?

Steve
Just sierras own figures, they are supposed to be more accurate than most, Bryan Litz tested a load and found them to only be a couple of percent out. The BC's drops as the bullet slows, the shooter app takes this on board, although not all apps do.

Didn't know Bryan Litz tested the .20 cal bullets, thought it was only the boat tail type?

He doesn't as far as I know, but the 39 SBK is a boat tail, Litz tested the .22's and they were pretty close to actual, as were all the sierras apart from 7mm for some reason.

Mine doesn't foul much at all, but that's probably more down to the barrel quality than the calibre, only problem I have with mine is it doesn't feed well from the mag (tikka 595). I'm going to modify it at some point. The Case is so small that it pops up too early at too steep an angle and misses the chamber, hitting the base of the barrel. Longer lips on the mag will fix this I hope...

Well I had a 204 ruger about 10 yrs ago loved it I'm its biggest fan sold IT bought a 243 win ,but I now have a ruger no 1 in 220 swift ,I have tried and both these in the field ,I have a few magazines of rod and gun from 1939 to the 1940s ,one them has a test of a 220 swift on red deer in Scotland,in 2 yrs the stalker shot 64 reds ,one at 264 cyards and it went down like a sack spuds ,he so impressed with kills with the 220 swift ,the rifle was a Winchester 54 ,with a 4 power Zeiss and Winchesters 48 grn ammo ,in which I have a box of myself , 204 r better ammo availability light recoil a super cal ,220 swift a beast ,better choice of heads if reloading but not ammo , both flat shooting and very accurate cals ,anyway what's wrong with the 22 250 rem ,best of luck with your choice
