I shoot a 32 grain max in my t3x. Never needed anything else
In your thread starter you said YOU used the last of the 32 grain bullets and got a 15 mm group!NP435 I would normally agree with you there but my mate who was with me tried it to rule me out and it was the same with him.
You never know it could just have been a bad batch of ammo
YepI’ve a 204R Tikka T3x lite in stainless - had it since the x first appeared - seems like a long time ago now.
My rifle prefers 32g and I usually use Sierra BKs. The 39 BK are ok around 8mm groups but the 32s are 1 ragged hole (though I confess I can still miss a whole fox from time to time)
The one thing I’ve found is my 204 really doesn’t like the barrel cleaned; a quick pull through is ok but a deep clean will see it loose accuracy for up to 60 rounds - I thought I’d broken it the first time I deep cleaned it - now I don’t bother with more than the occasional wipe.
It’s possible your rifle doesn’t like to be cleaned too and, if you bought it from a dealer, it may have been deep cleaned before you got it.

Nothing about the twist rate on the side of the barrel palIt will be stamped on the side of the barrel.
Have a look down the breech of the gun with a torch it sometimes has the twist stamped thereNothing about the twist rate on the side of the barrel pal
My Howa 204 wiill not group Hornaday 40g they are all over the place but 1” group with 32g at 100yardsHello all.
Well I got my tikka 204 a few weeks ago but with working away I havnt had time to zero it.
Bought a hik micro 4k scope and a box of 32g and 40g to see what it likes best.
I started with the 32g it seemed to group ok for 2 shots but then would go wild there was a little wind but nothing I'd normally worry about.
So I swapped to the 40g and instantly it grouped quite well, I then decided 40g is what it's happy with and that's what il stock up on.
So once I'd got a good zero that I was happy with I decided to run the last of the 32g through it, I put 6 shots at 100 yards in a 15mm group.
From memory the wind/ breeze was still there.
But previously I couldn't get more than 2 shots together then they would be all over the place.
The mod did come a little loose at 1 point but that was noticed and tightened up but it was still all over the place.
Are these 32g very badly affected by the wind?
what are you guys running factory ammo wise.
I'm happy with the 40g just confused as to why 6 shots with the breeze still there went so perfectly.
Video is on yputube if you lookMy tikka will shoot 40gr but prefers 39gr.. personsally not a fan of 32gr. With homeloads it has orinted dub .5" groups at 400 yards and multiplile .125 moa groups at 100 yds
Interesting. One of the original .20 caliber bullets made was 36 gr (for the 5mm Craig) by Walt Berger (when he was still alive; he was a huge 20 caliber fan).Sierra have a new 36 grain bullet this year. View attachment 460892
