22-250 or 223 for foxes.

Currently I have 243 and 270 in the cabinet. I used the 243 for all my small deer and foxing. I'm considering another calibre just for my foxing and currently thinking 22-250 or 223. I know both will do the job but I'm looking for something that when zero'd for 200 or 250m won't have a massive rise from 100 to 200m. Which of these calibres is best for that or is there something else I should consider when longer range foxing?

22-250, zeroed at 200yds will be about 1.5" high at its apex and about the same below at 250yds. No need to estimate range or holdover, just point and squeeze.

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking. No need to worry about drop over those distances. Point and shoot, just need to read the wind correctly.

The additional cost of a couple of shots on a night’s foxing is a fraction of the fuel used to get you there. You would save significantly more money by driving more economically.
Sure, the 223 is quieter, so why suggest using the 243?

I absolutely love my 22-250.

Was considering selling my 223. But v pointable, great in woodland and v cheap to make. Components easy to get. So it really depends on where youre shooting it - open fields or on the fringes of woods- and of course what twist you have.

223 - much cheaper to run than 22-250. And whats the point of a 22-250 when you already have a 243?

But I suppose if all your foxes are bing shot at well over 200, and you have the 243 set up as a dedicated deer round zeroed with dedicated deer bullets, and you want a long range foxer with night vision shooting a 50gn vermin bullet then 22-250 makes sense. But if most are within 200, just stick with 223.

If you have an itch to scratch get a 250 rifles are like engines there's no substitute for horsepower a 250 is immense fun it really is point and shoot and flop but it's a noisy chambering ,223s do the job but everyone has one lol
A swift as mentioned above really is the king of the traditional .22s it takes no prisoners

I have a 204 and 223. As foxing cartridge both are fine, but I think the 22-250 would have the edge as dedicated foxing rig, probably matched by your 243 using 58gr V-Max. Speed similar to the 204 but with a larger energy transfer. The 204 and 223 are just more economical to run. Less powder and better barrel life.
