.22 creedmoor

Seen previous posts saying the .22 creedmoor could out perform a 22-250. Just curious if anyone has tried the .22 creedmoor with 53g/55g vmax bullets? If so what’s the fps that you get out of it

I’ve looked into the 22 Creedmoor a fair amount and I’ve got a slot for one. I feel it’s kind of missing the point of the 22 Creedmoor using the lighter bullets. It really shines with the heavy for calibre, high bc bullets.
In answer to your question I’ve seen folk achieving 3800-3900 with a good length barrel and a 55g bullet.

I guess my 22-250 is between a rock and a hard place, 222/223 owners say the extra velocity is pointless whereas 22CM say it doesn’t have enough velocity. 🤷

I've never shot one but everything I've read suggests a few hundred fps more than 22-250 however it is supposed to feed better from a mag and handle heavier bullets better.

As you know there’s nothing wrong with a 22-250 but if you want to shoot heavy for calibre bullets the 22-250 isn’t going to be the first choice.

Only sensible answer.

'Flat shooting' is a myth, yes a 50 grain bullet might appear to drop less to around 300m, but after that a bullet with better BC will out-perform in every sense (less drop, wind drift, more retained energy).

It would be if the rifle manufacturers made 22/250’s with an eight twist.

Tikka does but its US/Canada only.

Do or did Bergara produce a fast twist 22-250 ?

There have been other .22 wildcat cartridges that perform similarly to the Creedmoor the .22Grendel being one . Unfortunately , they will remain in the shadows and be the darlings of handloaders , enthusiasts and without the likes of Hornady's marketing will remain so .

There's still a place for the 223 and 22-250, particularly after darkness where the low recoil allows the shooter to maintain their sight picture . I'm sure the Creedmoor will find it's place .

GMK can get the 8 twist .22-250 Supervarmint, also with long barrel if needed, but expect to wait over 9 months.... could make a baby quicker

As to why they are not a standard stock item is beyond me, whoever is their buyer is way behind the times - we see this time and time again in the UK.

Tempted to order one, hope I live long enough to receive it, shoot a few hundred mid/heavy weight bullets then rebarrel as a 22 Creedmoor once the throat is eroded.

The .22 Grendel won’t perform anywhere near the creedmoor!!!

It has around half the capacity, in an equal barrel length the 6.5 Grendel won’t match the creedmoor and the .22 would be no different!

I suggest taking a look at the venerable .243 Winchester. It may not be very fashionable but with handloads its performance is blistering. You have the option of light bullets e.g. 58gr that are getting towards 4000fps and yet you can also shoot heavier bullets at about 3000fps even in traditional 1 in 10 twist, e.g., 90gr Sierra FMJ bullets work well in my elderly Tikka M55 at long range of 1100yds or so.

I have not had a 22CM - however my 22.250 zips a 53grn vmax at 3730fps from a 24" 1 in 12 tube..

I also have a rather warm load using 50gr SBK at 3880fps which is cloverleafing.
I am sure the 22 CM could get a few more fps , although i don't know how useful that extra performance would be.

People miss the point of 22CM, it's about being able to use the cartridge in AICS (or even AW) magazines, have access to small rifle primer brass and being more suited to long, heavy bullets due to the short case.
