22 LR stingers

What rifle are you putting it through?
Some manufacturers say don't use stingers in some of their rifles, Ruger 10/22s come to mind.
Might be just semi-autos.

I would not bother with stingers or Cci velocitors (or whatever the ultra velocity is called). But the standard High Velocity RWS and Eley type have a lot more thump than sub sonics.

However if you are shooting foxes or other larger animals I would keep the range to 50 yards or so. You can shoot at longer distances but you adding in a big element of risk, given that imperfect shot placement means a wounded animal. A 22 regardless of ammo is really a short range proposition on foxes. Any further it’s really a centrefire high velocity proposition starting at 17 hornet up to deer stalking calibres - I have shot plenty with 243 and 7x57 and they don’t complain.

I believe the stinger has approximately the same energy, it is a shortened lightweight bullet in a longer case. This is achieved as it is a heeled case. As a rough guide:

.22LR ~ 175 ft/lbs
.22LR ‘stinger’ ~ 175 ft/lbs
.17HMR ~ 275 ft/lbs
.22WMR ~ 325 ft/lbs
.223REM ~ 1,300 ft/lbs
There are lots of HV .22rf that run a 40 grain and plus , check out the HMR and WMR in your list being even , i suspect some of the alternative 22LR choices will show significant energy gains lapua and SK run full weight 40grain HV it makes a fair difference

I shoot a goodly amount of velocitors are very good and are actually shooting a 40 grain , they shoot just fine accuracy wise. With RF ammo though you really need to chrono and test a batch ( most RF varies batch to batch ) that's why serious RF shooters do a lot of batch testing and they buy loads of whatever batch they find shoots the very best .

Apologies, I just estimated approximate values off the top of my head to illustrate the magnitudes of difference rather than as accurate values. I should have made this clearer.

Stingers are ok in my cz at fifty yards but I wouldn't choose them for longer range than subs, although they definitely hit harder. For longer range I use rws HV, they're accurate and hard hitting in my anschutz bolt and cz auto.
