.22 wmr range and accuracy

I shot exclusively with a .22WRM until I got a .222. I found that my rifles would only digest one brand happily. The best I could expect was 1 MOA +- 1/8".
I've still got a little Cadet 16" rifle that clocks 2300fps with Hornady 30gn Vmax (fluted SS match barrel from a 3P .22LR rifle) . Shoots around MOA.

I have thoose two calibres to but it was mainly for a crow/rook problem and it does the job well plus ammo is 13 pound for 50 so considerably cheaper than the .222rem even after reloading, plus heard the cz 452 wmr are good work horses

I love the 22wmr , had a Krico when in Aus and on returning here got another Krico, with the v max rounds it's easily the most accurate rifle I've used up to the 100yds. I did take a 'roo once in Aus at about 70 yrds and he dropped on the spot with a neck shot, went up and got him and appeared good and dead with severed spine , dragged him back and put him in the back of the estate and drove off to camp, got about 200 yards before the "dead " beast woke up and proceeded to kick the shjt out of the roof, not something you forget when you hear the first kick turn round and see this ****ed off 6ft 150 ish lb brute trying to exit the vehicle vertically......lesson learnt and last one I ever shot with the Wmr.

The .22 WMR is not a .222 or .223, so you cannot shoot large varmints at long range with it, due to the loss of energy.

So, do you need the resolution, and color correction you would need for 1000 yard shooting at targets? I think not. There are scopes made precisely for .22 LR, .22 WMR, and the .17s which are better than any of the rifles:

Simmons rimfire scopes with owner-changeable turrets .22 LR and .17 HMR. Side parallax adjustment.
Bushnell rimfire scopes, same manufacture as the Simmons, but with BDC reticles
Bushnell Banner 3.5-10x36 with parallax adjustable objective.
Burris 4.5-14x42 AO with BDC.
I wouldn't touch any of those scopes with a barge pole.

I wouldn't touch any of those scopes with a barge pole.
We will all take note of that. What make of scope that has BDC for rimfire cartridges would you recommend, then? One grand cheapo scope not on Southern's list was the BSA. At one time they made two grades of BDC scope for rimfires. A friend gave be the better grade as a birthday present and I mounted it on my Ruger Custom that I used as a test rifle when I was doing consulting work for a munitions company. It is clear and has held zero solidly for countless rounds of 22RF. (Literally: I once had to QA an entire case of 22LR in 3 days) What is most remarkable is that the BDC factor was very accurate. I'm sure the 22WMR turret was as much so... ~Muir

Post the link when your done, this is making me not wanting to sell my little cz wmr
I have seven 22WMR in all shapes and sizes. Wouldn't be without one. I have told this story on SD before, but I spent one long, hard, cold South Dakota winter subsisting on the food and money a Marlin tube -feed 22wmr brought in. I hunted every day. Sold pelts. Bought food and paid bills -and ate game all from the grace of a (then) $69 22WMR. I had no money at the time. The hardware store gave me the rifle and two boxes of CCI HP on credit. I ambushed to coyote that week, sold them for $75 each and paid my debt with money left over. From that point on I was never without that rifle if I was out of the house.~Muir
