Wanted: .224 50 grain flat base bullet heads

Looking for a few .224 50 grain (or less) flat base bullet heads for load development. Having trouble getting my 1:12 twist rifle grouping so want to try few other weights before I buy any quantity. Tried using 55 grain boat tails but not good.

I'd suggest the issue is not twist rate with a 1:12 and 55gr. What powder etc you using?

I shoot 55gr Varmageddon, which are flat based and very accurate in my 1:12, with N130.

I have a box of 50gr Blitzking you could try, although a boat tail, it worked well in a previous 1:14 .222

Give McLeods a call. If you are intent on trying a 50gr, they have Sierra #1330 on the shelf.

I have been using 55g FMJBT with Ramshot X Terminator, groups at 50m were about 2 inches.

PPU 50g sp are flat base and shoot quite well through my .222. £19 for 100 from kranks.

Yes spotted those but wasn't sure if they were flat base.

I tried the soft point ppu and these were 2" groups at best where with most other bullets were .5" group. Buy a quality 50grain bullet, the boat tail shouldn't be an issue. Hornady, Sierra, nosler all good quality.

At the moment just target. Rifle is vintage Winchester model 70 and appears to have been well looked after.
I have yet to try factory ammo but will be trying some this weekend.

There supposed to be a good rifle. What bullets did you use first? Is everything tight and is the optic tried and tested? Give the barrel a proper clean. Just remove as many variables as possible. Even get a mate to shoot it.
I had my first centrefire I struggled to get a good group, I found my stock was too low for the 56mm optic and my cheek weld was crap and my zero was all over the place. I found my rifle hated sako softpoints, I put some pipe lagging on the stock and changed to hornady vmax and hey presto .75" group easy.
A 1 in 12 should be fine with bullets up to about 60grain. But they don't all suit.

I have two CZ527 in 223 Rem. Both 1 in 12, both accurate with 55 PPU softpoint over N133.

I used 50gr SP Hornady in my 1 in 14 twist 22ppc....fantastic results.
