.270 lead projectiles

Just getting started on reloading, and looking for a suitable .270 projectile. Will be mainly for hill reds and sika.

Tempted to just crack on with a traditional 130gr SP as they’ve served me well in factory ammo, but as I’m looking to get the best out of my rifle by reloading, I’m wondering if I should be trying something else.

Have looked through lots of old threads, but also conscious there is a general shortage, so looking for recommendations of what’s good, and generally available at the moment.

Sierra Gamekings and Pro Hunters, Nosler Partitions, or something like ELD-X?!

SG for me, 150gn 2750fps with n165 out of a Rem700.

Mate of mine used nosler ballistic tips for donkeys. 130gn.
Did everything with them fox to red deer, near and far.

Sierra pro hunter 130grn for me not cheap anymore last 400 I managed to get at the old price £29 per 100

I tried several in my rem 700. Game changer, acubond, ppu one or two others that I can’t recall also tried a couple of powders. The rifle seems to like 130 game king and vit n160

I use, and have for years, Hornady 140gr BTSP Interlocks in mine. About 2850fps with N165 from 23" barrel.
I got a lot of them in a sale just after expanding bullets left S5 - but it looks as though a few UK suppliers have them currently.

I use hornady 145g ELD-X with N160 and sako brass and have no complaints

Reasonably priced. Haven’t tested the terminal performance yet but hopefully I can connect next week.

130 grain in Hornady interlocks, Sierra prohunters, Speer hot cores, Nosler partitions.Sierra Gamekings, Hornady btsp, Nosler Ballistic Tips. All are excellent ,accurate and effective. Buy what is available.

Good afternoon barrel length 22" velocities is in and around 2828fp

150gr Sierra Gameking shot well in my 270 (22.4" barrel) at about 2850-2900fps. 60gr Viht N165.

I'd would try the 140gr Sierra TGK's if I didn't shoot 110gr copper bullets.

SG for me, 150gn 2750fps with n165 out of a Rem700.

What he says. 150 grain (mine were Hornady Interlock) at 2,750 or thereabouts and nearabouts. It's all you need to know.

I used Hodgdon H4831 in mine for 2,809fps from a twenty-three and a half inch barrel BRNO ZKK 600 but it's neither here nor there and if I did it again I'd also use Vihtavouri powders if I hadn't kept "put by" five canisters of Hodgdon H414 when REACH took hold.

I will shortly be listing what I have left of these Hornady Interlock on SD Classifieds later this Sunday evening.

Nosler BT 130gr was my go to bullet, now using 110gr TTSX trundling along at 3420fps.
