Hello all
After the success of finding my loved WMR from a shop only 45 minutes away which I’d never even heard of untill my post on here !
I’m now after .270 in the northwest, closer to Manchester the better. I’ve rang the usual Cheshire ,bamfords etc. just wondering if anyone’s seen anything knocking around. I’ve a budget of around £800-£1000. And I’m looking for a decent brand ,second hand of course, been looking at the Tika T3s if anyone has any advice on them.
Will also be after a nice second hand scope aswell

Hi Mate, I picked up a .17hmr from Malmo guns near Lancaster the other day. They had a fine selection of used .270’s in and I’m sure I noticed a t3x knocking around on the shelf aswell as mods and scopes. Give them a call they might be able to help! The guys there also have a shop in north wales they can transfer stuff too if it’s closer!

The Tikka T3 is over priced for what it is. It is an expensive rifle, but it comes with cheap parts. The stock, trigger guard and magazine are all made of cheap plastic. The barrelled action is excellent and that's what makes the entire T3 rifle such a cruel swindle.

You would be much better off by buying a quality used rifle. I have three Parker Hale rifles in .270 and I guarantee you that you will be happy. Also see if you can find a real Tikka. Real Tikka rifles were made by Tikkakoski Oy in Tikkakoski, Finland. The Tikkakoski company was bought out by Sako and the current Tikka brand represents Sako's economy line.

So look for Tikka M-65 or LSA-65 in .270. These are better in every way that today's fake Tikkas

If you can find a good used rifle you will have enough money left over to buy a quality scope or some reloading equipment.

In the pictures below, you can see three real Tikkas. A real Tikka will be marked in Finnish and Swedish. "OY Tikkakoski AB". And early Tikkas have barrels made of Swedish Bofors steel.

I have also attached a picture of a Parker Hale 1100 in .270 and a Husqvarna 1640. I have a Husqvarna 1640 in .270 calibre, but I can't find it at the moment. But it is exactly like the one in the picture which is in .30-06.

I found this real Tikka in 270 at English gunshop. It is well within your price range. I'm sure there are others out there if you look

The after market T3 parts are made because the factory parts are garbage. Aftermarket LSA-65 parts were not offered because the original parts were properly made in the first place

I think a lot of satisfied Tikka users, myself included, will completely disagree with you on that. I have 2 Sako and 2 Tikka rifles in my cabinet - guess which get the most use and have taken the most deer :tiphat:

I did not say that the T3 was a bad rifle. I said it was an overpriced cruel swindle. The T3 has a superb barrel and a high quality hammer forged receiver. But the rest of the rifle is just a horrible crime. The stock, trigger guard and magazine are all made from recycled sex toys.

But you can rebuild those rifles using properly made aftermarket parts. Take for example the trigger guard. There's a guy in Whitecourt, Alberta who makes a stainless steel replacement trigger guard for the T3.

The modern Tikka was for a time an incredible value. Even with the plastic stock and trigger guard. Because of the wave of popularity of Tikkas there’s tons of aftermarket support. I know prices vary in different countries but I just bought yesterday a Tikka Lite brand new for $657 US. That used to be normal but now everything I see is well over $1000 and more. I’d have a hard time paying that much. I’m hoping the bargain Lite model isn’t being phased out for more expensive but not any better rifles.

If you find a good deal on a Tikka you will enjoy it. And can upgrade over time you will never out grow that rifle. The aftermarket support is a big plus for Tikka.

Wondering what and where you plan to hunt that led you to 270.

Went for a 270 as it’s what I’m used to there was more suitable for my licence application, mainly a mix of all uk deer, in the future I may look into a smaller calibre aswell when my license will allow

You're right. I cannot understand how in your country the Chief Constable of Pumpstach-on-Thames gets to decide whether or not you are allowed to own a rifle and he also gets to decide what calibre. And after he forces you to sit on top of the photocopier in order to provide an anal scan, you thank him most gratefully

I got an as new t3x 24" .270 stainless varmint for £800, less than a box of ammo through it,

And if you do like to chop and change parts on the rifle there is always a huge amount of aftermarket secondhand parts at good prices available for tikkas
 
Hi pal, what is the main difference in a T3x and T3 ?
Been looking at a T3 with 24” stainless,
Not sure how heavy it will be for a stalking rifle, having a look next weekend 👍🏼

Go try some rifles out!!! I wouldn’t own a t3 if you paid me, not a Benelli, but they’re great rifles at superb value.

If you can find a tikka m65, buy that! You just missed out on one not long ago on here, best deal someone ever got.

But, do go try some, handle them, see how they feel to you. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a Remington and I wouldn’t buy a t3, nor a lupo, but that’s me! I love mausers and shjjte like Parker hales, we are all different.

Im no expert, but as far as I know the differences are t3x has larger ejection port, metal bolt shroud, and I think there is a differance with the recoil lug,
Edited to say the recoil lug difference is simply changed from aluminium to steel
