Ah well as the "military calibre" prohibition, at least for the veteran calibres, has now been repealed in France I'd pass on a .308 W and go for a .30-06 if you are going the ".30" route.
Many of these types of rifles will have been owned by amateur stalkers, shot at most a box or cartridges a year and spent most of their life in a cabinet.
My BSA cf2 stuzen 270,cost just under £200,shot roe,my first red and first boar and will happily cloverleaf with my home loads.
zeis duralyt on top, absolutely cracking rifle and full fills my needs.
I was very lucky in that it's condition is I would describe as new,and has had almost no rounds put through.
I did however have an issue, wher the bolt needTed repair a few months back, but didn't cost the earth and it's like new now.
