28 bores

I have seen a very good shot using a 410 on driven pheasant and to a degree one could say that say in his case it was the nearest to killing or missing cleanly I have ever seen.

O.K.
Was that the guy that used to run the Haddeo shoot, Ned G. He favoured a 410 and so I've been told would take back gun an take the birds the line missed, an excellent shot by all accounts.

I quite fancy a 28 or a .410 for walking up rabbits and game with the spaniel. Sometimes feel like the 12 blatters them a bit!

BUT

My girlfriend has a 20 (sore point, her gun is far and away nicer than mine!) and it is a joy to use, im not quite sure where a 28 or a .410 would gain over it?

Each to their own though and id love to give either of them a go if either funds allowed or if someone I knew had one.

After testing a 28 I was very impressed by it and its killing power/ lack of recoil.
But I use a 20 and its very close but left crippled game beyond 27-30 yards (could have tried more choke).
So in its field driven or walked up to 30yds its fine if shots are going out further stick with the 20. (my opinion)
I might at some time go to a 28 for low shoots but I can always use a lighter cartridge in the 20.

I bought a Lincon 28o/u for my son about a year ago. The shop gave me some Express no7s with ,would you believe, just 14gm load. I took it to a first night duck flight on a stubble field and now i am hooked. It is such a sweet thing to swing and shoot . I havnt tried it on any ground game but find it kills ducks and pheasants just as cleanly as my 12 bore s/s . As has been previously stated very high game are probably out of its range but with care its a great little gun.
