The history of the .308 Win cases goes back a long way & wasn’t related to amy ability to take higher pressures.
Several decades ago, wrapped up with their development of the 6mm BR Rem & 7mm BR Rem, Remington produced .308 Win cases with the SR primer. Bob Jenson who was the US Palma Team captain & a friend of mine was one of several people who became interested in their use for what the Americans call ‘Palma Match‘ shooting; the attraction was potentially more consistent velocities due to the smaller/milder primer - not the desire to push pressures. This all much later eventually led to the introduction by Lapua of their SR .308 Win ‘Palma’ case. Another attraction of the original Remington SR .308 cases was their greater capacity due to having thinner walls (away the base area anyway).
Of course some shooters also found they could hike the pressures somewhat on the Lapua SR primer version without the primers falling out (so quickly).
A downside of the SR primer in a 308 Win capacity case is it’s marginal with some powders in cold conditions & irregular ignition can result or even ‘hang-fires’.
Whether the extra cost of the cases relative to the possible extra life span is worth it, especially bearing in mind other inevitable mechanisms of case loss is for you to judge.
For sporting use I’d prefer to use a LR primer 243/308 case.
