This would certainly fit the bill too.Ive been down the exact route as you, i ended up with a Bergara HMR with the 24'' barrel, 308, used it at Bisley also in the Field,
and now its been in the cabinet for 2 years unused, and i might let it go.
Interesting. Why has it been in the cabinet for a couple of years? Did you find that that it didn't work as a crossover and another rifle was the "go to"rifle?Ive been down the exact route as you, i ended up with a Bergara HMR with the 24'' barrel, 308, used it at Bisley also in the Field,

I looked at the HMR also but the price that you can at a CTR for swayed me and I purchased one second hand hardly used 20” barrel and I walk miles with mine with a back pack sling and you wouldn’t know it was there,Interesting. Just dont get the time for Bisley, and now my job has changed slightly , so its foxing 223, or a quick walk around the farms i take the 17 HornetInteresting. Now what scope are you going to put on it !!I looked at the HMR also but the price that you can at a CTR for swayed me and I purchased one second hand hardly used 20” barrel and I walk miles with mine with a back pack sling and you wouldn’t know it was there,
Bang goes my suggestion then.....................I'm after informed suggestions for a .308 that would be a good crossover rifle for stalking and range use. I looked at a Steyr Scout but I don't think I like its aesthetics and the barrel profile is too thin.
I really like the idea and wanted to like the rifle but when I actually held one it just didn't float my boat. Have fun shooting tomorrow.Bang goes my suggestion then.....................
My Jeff Cooper Steyr Scout does the business in the field and on the range (off to do 300 and 600 at Bisley tomorrow, after grassing a nice 6-pointer yesterday).
Tried one. A nice rifle. The floor plate mag was however the problem for me. My reservations about floor plates are probably nonsense but I do prefer a removable magazine.I will throw a Remington VSSF in to the mix.
I may take you up on that Mike. I have held one and it seemed like a well constructed rifle. My reservation with it might be the light sporter barrel for range wwork. That said, even with a sporter barrel it will probably shoot far better than I can make itHave a look a the Mauser m18 Tom. Welcome to have a go of mine (it’s a .243 tho)
Alot of rifle for the money

We were shooting 2 sighters and 7 to count. As it is a stalking rifle, I was simply aiming off, rather than messing with the scope settings. At 300, with a fairly strong breeze, I got 6 x 5s including 2 x V bulls and called a flier that scored a 3 at 6 o'clock. The other 8 rounds were in a +/- 2 MOA group. This was off the integral Steyr Scout bipod with the 2.5 mag IER scope. 600 was a bit more akin to lobbing artillery.I really like the idea and wanted to like the rifle but when I actually held one it just didn't float my boat. Have fun shooting tomorrow.
