Muzzle velocity is only part of the equation, how does your ammunition perform? The picture is of three jackets recovered from just under the skin on the exit side of big Fallow bucks, no exit wound but the mushrooming effect did the job effectively of causing massive tissue damage. These were all heart shots and the animals ran no more than a hundred yards before collapsing stone dead. The ammunition was .308 Nosler 150 grn ballistic tips travelling at around 2600 MV from a 20” barrel 1:12 twist.

I’m currently working up a load for 130 grn TTSX for my M12, how far off the lands are you seating your bullets?

It wants to be deep into the case. I couldn’t tell you the jump as it’s massive but I’m seating right up to the top of the last relief groove for best accuracy. This has an effect on pressure due to case capacity and being a mono, you don’t want to be rawdogging a maxi off the bat. Work up

Until law changes, using on a ctr s/s 43.5 grains n140 tried from 41.8 to 47.1 but was happy with 43.5 @ 2569 fps, for 150, sst, 150 Sierra g/k, I like simple that works for me, accuracy and pushed out to 400, Large fallow to fox, If not I would change it.

Having faffed around doing jump testing for my .243 TTSX load, I started the .308 load using the same COAL as the factory VOR-TX round - 2.079". When I first got the .308 I measured the chamber as 2.307". By my poor maths, I make that a jump of 228 thou or 5.8mm. When I acquired my Tikka T3X in .308 I tried the S20 rounds and had exactly the same results including accuracy so I didn't touch it! Fire-formed cases from the S20 fit the T3X and vice-versa - winner, winner, chicken dinner

That’s a pretty long run! I’d not be very happy with that. Shooting anything in forestry with runs like that and you better have a good dog…

My stalking at the time was largely open farmland so was never really an issue, however I did have an unforgettable dog which was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He was mustard and took to deer work so naturally.

168gr Amax 44gr N140 gives 2624 fps from my 20 in barrel

Using the same Amax myself. They're hard to get now
