Evening all,was wondering if anyone is shooting a 308 with an 18" barrel and what load data you got to work with it ?
I have tried vhit n140 with grains of powder ranging from 39 to 41 with a hornady eld 168 grain projectile, 5 shot groups 3 close and 2 way off.
Tried vhit n133 with grains ranging from 35 to 38 with the same horrnady projectile...seen some improvement with groups but nothing to write home about..
Any suggestions would be welcomed

Hi there
This load has been fantastic - 5 shots at 100m covered by a 5p piece.

165grn Sierra Game Kings Spitzer #2145
42.5grn Vhit N150
CCI large rifle primers
COL 70.9mm
chrono at 2455fps

Hope that helps

What a sweet rifle! Could you please tell us more about it? Have you tried any subsonic loads? Methinks a suppressor would be in order, nevertheless.

Seeing that you have tried different powders but just one projectile, I would humbly suggest you to try another bullet.
For example, the 175 gr Lapua Scenar has been reliably accurate on quite a lot of rifles, and then some.

Hi yeah no problem it's a desert tech srs bullpup rifle with switch barrel capabilities..I have the silly small 308 barrel and a normal length 6.5 creedmoor barrel.
I plan to try some different weights in projectiles and see how that works out I haven't tried anything subsonic yet.
To give you an idea of how short it is here is it next to my 44 magnum taurus lbr20241004_180834.webp

I shoot a .308 with a 1:10 twist 16” barrel it works well with ramshot tac behind 125 150 and 165 gr projectiles. I went to tac because it’s a fast (yet clean) burning powder which is ideal for short barrels.

Twist rate is 1:8
1:8 twist 168grn eldm, bullet length 2.272, approx speed 2500fps.
This bullet weight and length will likley be unstable. 1:8 twist is too fast for 168grn.
Look at 220grn ish.

Yeah I have subsequently found out that the barrel was made for subsonic rounds ..now starts a new journey to reloading subsonic..it should be fun ..loaded up some to try out so will keep everyone posted with the results

I experimented with sub sonic in my .308 20in barrel 1:10 twist. I posted the results I got. If you search. 308 sub sonic, you may find it useful.
