That sucks. They look like a nightmare for a die-hard handgunner. The long (12") barrel must play hell with accuracy as well. I bought a Springfield Armory XD Tactical 45 ACP this morning. I am not huge on automatics but at least it is light and pointable. (Not to mention ridiculously accurate!)
Now a question: Are you allowed to own black powder revolvers?? I am a real affectionado of black powder wheel guns and have spent a bit of time making them perform. I would tackle a whitetail at 25 yards with my Ruger Old Army without any qualms at all...~Muir
Sorry Terry I have to disagree with you on this one. I shot pistols both semis and revolvers with a fair bit of success competitively for probably 17 years even representing my country on a couple of occasions. To me long barrel revolvers are an abortion. Far from being an assistance the wrist brace is a hindrance. With that and the long tube (barrel) hanging out the front its a bit like balancing the pole a tight rope walker uses.
Now I know that you have previous experience of pistols from the forces though be it probably using an old clunker of a Hi-power, so you must feel the difference between these “wonder wands” and real pistols. While I can achieve reasonable accuracy with my LBR it’s not on a par with the results we used to achieve with real pistols and certainly not as much fun. But apart from black powder pistols which personally I dislike because of all the fuss and mess involved, it’s all we loyal subjects are trusted with. Now don’t get me started because over the years I have become more and more bitter about the loss of my sport!!!!
SimonA friend not on here has just been granted a 357M or 38 Special by West Mids Police.
Does anyone know of any section 5 dealers in the West Mids area or near that can supply a suitable pistol or revolver. There are others i know of further afield but not any nearby.
Interesting! Does it not shoot better with faster loads?? That 6.0 Unique was a favorite of mine with 200 grain bullets in my 44 Special but in that gun you'd think the barrel time would kill you. You must be rock solid with an excellent instinct for follow-through.~MuirHere's my Taurus long barrelled revolver in .44 mag

Silly looking and a bit unwieldy but fun to shoot and reasonably accurate with light target loads (6 gr of Unique)

I had the same problem trying to find a section 5 dealer who could actually get a .38 pistol let alone restricted
Personally if you hav a dealer that has them in stock further afield them I would go to them as it will save a lot of time and messing in the long run
I got mine from sabre defence by London
They even restricted it while I waited with no extra cost
