40 C temperature forecast after the same yesterday saw me out in the zone well before daylight. I went into another different dry creek system away from the nesting birds location by about 10 k`s.
Saw a hind in heavy fern uphill that offered sfa but I still took a little bit of video. They hide without trying to hide in the high fern.
Dog showing the way another 3-400 further along and on a steady climb parallel to the gully floor it was hot in the warming air and that had the sweat starting.I only had a singlet on under a camo shirt but it was warm. Full face mask blah blah also.
Dog was 15 yards in front and as I rounded a big Eucy I spotted a dark looking deer in the green fern (dark = male generally) ****!
He was slightly below and on the other side of the gutter.
Ducking back behind the tree and readying the gear I stuck my head out and he was gone......aaaah poop! **** no, he had bedded down.
Ranged at 90 yards I reckoned he was the spikey I ****ed up on the other morning. (saw me before I saw him) Even though only at 90 yards he had a fair rubbishy gutter between us and with the heat,high fern access and being solo I let him keep his head on for today.
Took a few videos with the little video camera that is playing up in focus with the transition `tween optical and digital zoom and then placed my big DSLR on the too small tripod for a few snaps and videos. It was too heavy for the tripod and dropped off onto the ground...****!
Remounting it for round 11 and hoping no damage was done I played around making noises and sending the dog up and back trying to elicit a response from the deer. I feel that he had ' just a dog' on his mind and was supremely confidant in being safe in his camouflaged nest.
7.45 Am saw us on our way back and then we were honked 30 odd times by an unseen hind. I tried to get some video to no avail.
Anyhow,a good morns work done before the heat. In the process of loading videos if ya ****ing interested.
