.44 mag loads

Bob, you won't find any GM3, it hasn't been available from Nobel Sport Italy for a long time.
It's rough equivalent is Vihtavuori N320 but I'd say the Hodgdon powders I listed would be a better bet.

Hi Bob,

I’ve used 4.7 grains titegroup 240 grain gm bullet head & 5 grains titegroup 200 grain gm bullet head at 20 yards Gallery Rifle competition and 50 yards Pinner Quarry, Crawshawbooth

Regards Stephen

Thanks Stephen, I must have met you up at Pinner at sometime?

Hi Bob,

I’ve shot on Muzzle Loading Saturdays & a few Thursdays with Kev H a few times.

I’ve been away from Rimfire and Centrefire concentrating on Cowboy Action Shooting on Steels at one of the grounds in W Yorks used by the CBNT

I’m still with the BDML , I’m 181 , hopefully I’ll get back to Rimfire at 100 yards.

I’ve seen in the newsletter, the Practical Shooting that’s started which looks fun !

Is that what you’re using your under lever for ?

Regards Stephen

Just a bit of plinking, had a go with Peters and Colin’s, thought it was good.

Right. Here goes!

WIN_20241019_22_21_06_Pro.webp

These were loaded on a Dillon Square Deal press. The note reads:

15 Aug. 2013
Leicester Shooting Centre
Winchester Model 94 .44 Magnum s/n 3754042

6.2 GRAINS "GREEN DOT" 240 RN-FP GM BULLETS
Zeroing of the rifle with 6.2 grains Green Dot produced this ten round standing offhand unsupported group at twenty-five yards. The bullet being a commercial "GM" cast lookalike in shape and seat depth of Remington's 240 RN Soft Point loading.

Followed by this.

WIN_20241019_22_32_03_Pro.jpg

Loaded on the same Dillon Square Deal and also with 6.2 grains Green Dot. This is a ten round group shot from a rested position over a bench at twenty-five yards. From memory the velocity came in under the maximum velocity and maximum muzzle energy of the then still common range safety certificate limits of 1,000 fps and 1450 ft/lbs (?) as this is what the load had to conform to. The note reads:

4 Dec. 2013
Leicester Shooting Centre
Winchester Model 94 s/n 3754042

Dillon SDB AND LYMAN 429360 BULLET MOULD
TEN (10) ROUNDS - DILLON SBD GREE DOT
LYMAN 429360 BULLET - 232 GRAINS BOSER DESIGN

The Boser bullet had a bore riding front band of lesser diameter than the other bands. It was reputed to give poor accuracy in revolvers. Although of course by 2013 the Tory fullbore handgun ban meant that was only of academic interest in the UK. These old 429360 Lyman moulds sometimes show up on eBay...I had at one time a four cavity one...but this group was shot with bullets cast from a single cavity mould. I had a two cavity but it must have been a Friday job as the bullets cast were not at all accurate. So that mould was gotten rid of. I never used the four cavity as by then Summer 2014 I was having to administer my late mother's estate so never again had time for bullet casting. Now the moulds, the Dillon SDB, and the rifle eventually were all sold. The rifle in October 2017 and the other kit soon after. Only these notes remain of the whole matter.

Boser:

Lyman 429360. Temperamental? Bloody damned right! But, as my target shows, once you did hit the sweet spot? Sublime!
