4x4 advice

I've been out in one and yeah I'd have one. Very roomy although I'm not keen to go back to leaf springs. :???:

The man who has a couple of crofts that I shoot on has one, has had for sometime but cannot give a fair assessment of it, as it has spent so much time in the garage getting fixed! His wife hates the thing and laments the loss of their elderly Discovery. It is more comfortable then my 110's were.

Toyota Versus Land Rover

An old story but so true it's worth telling.

When Toyota were testing the air con on their new land cruiser, they wanted to check to see how air tight the cab was. Obviously panel fit and door seals/ window seals were the weakest points. Anyhow some bright spark decided the only way to test, was to install a live cat and time how long it took to run out of air. The cat was duly placed in the cab, and after 7hours and 48 minutes the poor moggy had expired. Toyota deemed this good enough, as clearly they had a pretty near perfect seal, thereby making the air con as efficient as possible.

Now what Toyota didn't know was that one of the technicians was actualy a mole planted by Land Rover to find where Toyotas were scoring points over the Solihull vehicle. The mole reported back with details of the test. The very next day L.R. too put a live cat in the cab of a new Defender. At the end of the day shift the cat was quite happily sleeping on the front seat. It got up occasionaly to eat, drink and use the litter tray in the rear floor pan, but basicaly seemed untroubled. The day shift went home and expected to find the poor cat dead in the morning.
When they arrived at work, they were in for a terrible shock, the cat had somehow slipped out!

Like I said through the gaps in the panels

I think with every Landrover they should give you a roll of draught excluder

Or you can use one of those knitted woollen dog draught excluders, you know the one's old ladies use to stop the draught under the door

Or weld the doors up and climb out the windows, this could be present problems for the bigger people (Mr B)

Or Just leave the doors off, (you may as well theres little difference) and call it a coupe

I can see all the Landie boys getting steamed up

Buckup
That's the funniest thing I've heard all day!!

Sikamalc
Don't you like a bit of wind through your hair?!!

All the best,

Gyr

Well Malc my Land Rover might be drafty but at least it hasn't got that appalling sound coming from the stereo! What's it called again 'Dire Straits'!    I'm dead now!

John,

Any ideas what the problems were?

The Icevo engine and gearbox they were using are supposedly fairly well established units...nothing too exiting about either, but they are supposed to be reliable..

Regards,

Pete

Pete,

As I recall it just died on him one day and would not start, when they did get it started it would not run for long. It was off for repair a fair while. I got a bit wary about enquiring as, like you, I thought they were quite good and did well off road, reliable etc, but when I mentioned this to his wife the ear bashing commenced. So I rushed off to shoot her verminous rabbits, I see it is back and running, but avoid mentioning it, I prefer to think of it as cautious as opposed to cowardly :-D :-D

Mr B if its a Landie, it will have a wind up gramaphone in it. Try tuning yours into a reasonable radio station and you are likely to get Lord Haw Haw ( Germany calling Germany calling)  And its a job to get the spare crystals for the set now

Gyr. Yes mate I like the wind in my hair, I still have a great deal of it as well. However it would be safe to stick your head out of a Landie window, as top speed with all the sails out is about 60mph, and 0 to 60 in a week   is like waiting for god.

No, in all honesty Landies are good 4x4 vehicles not doubt, I just prefer somehting a bit more comfortable, and warmer :-D

And I prefer Dire Straits to the Spice girls CD you bought to Scotland Mr B.

Sikamalc

SLOW!SLOW!How dare you! What bare faced cheek!

"I just prefer something a bit more comfortable, and warmer" I don't blame you,I'll probably feel the same when I get old!!!
(ONLY JOKING!)

All the best,

Ford F150 V8 5.4Lt duel fuel
Applecross Estate north west Scotland on the hinds , 1200 mile round trip for me door to door. £246.00 in lpg. Go anywhere and pull anything.
Been doing that trip for one week every year for the last 13 years and in that time I have had the Navara, Isuzu Ro and Mitsubishi.
All good trucks but all thirsty.
My 150 has to work hard for a living and for me is worth every penny.
Good luck

Gyr, I assume you are younger than me :-D someone has to be it may as well be you

I have no problem with taking comfort and warmth on board now I am over 50, and my Isuzu has all of that. But I will conceed that off road the Landie would probably be better. However even Landrovers get stuck, thats why I have a 450 Honda Quad towed behind on a trailer, makes life easier. ;)

Can you hear the radio in your Landie whilst driving, usually the noise from the wind makes it impossible

Only joking mate, good to have a laugh with you and the infamous Mr B, he's another Landie lover. He even managed to get to my place in Scotland in December last year...... mind you he set off in March to get there

If I recall correctly, the return journey was not without incident, most illuminating was it not Mr B :-D :-D

John

Blimey I'm off the site for one evening and the knives are out! I would get a radio for my Landie but I'd find it hard to talk to my navigator and rear gunner! By 'Rear Gunner' I don't mean Wadas!

Sikamalc's Jap 4x4 is very comfortable although a bit noisey since he fitted the 'Stanna Stair' lift to the drivers side. Poor old fella!

Didnt need a stair lift on heartbreak ridge, I seem to remember it was you doing all the huffing and puffing walking up the hill ;) Not bad considering you are still a boy at under 40, and I saw 50 nearly 2 years back ;)

Sikamalc
I'm glad we can have a laugh without anyone taking offence.

Of course I can hear my radio when I'm going along,I push that button that says LOUD on it then I can hear it just fine!!

All the best,
Gyr
