You do know the Pajero is marketed in Spanish speaking territories as a Montero, don't you?

'The Mitsubishi Pajero (pronounced /pəˈdʒɛroʊ/, Spanish: [paˈxeɾo], Japanese パジェロ [padʑeɽo])[1][2] is a sport utility vehicle manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors. It was named after Leopardus pajeros, the Pampas Cat which inhabits the Patagonia plateau region in southern Argentina.[3] However, because pajero is a slang term for "******" in some varieties of the Spanish language,[2] alternative names have been adopted for many overseas markets. It is known as the Mitsubishi Montero (meaning "mountain warrior") in Spain, India, and the Americas (excepting Brazil), and as Mitsubishi Shogun in the United Kingdom.'

Just thought you'd want to know.........

It rhymes with banker if that helps.

Yeah, I'm in that group !

Had my LWB 2.8TD Pajero about 18 months now and it's a great motor, everybody thinks I'm a Gypo when I turn up in it though
Parts are cheap & readily available, plenty on the bay.
The diesel's suffer with front seal fuel pump problems though. Basically our diesel is lower sulphur to the Jap's and the seal fails because of this and starts to let oil & air in the fuel which causes starting problems and in the long run if not sorted the oil will cause injector/pump problems.
Did mine myself, seal was only a tenner off the bay,but it's not a job for the faint hearted, so make sure it doesn't need doing or priced accordingly, the cheapest place I found(in Lymington, Hants) charged £200 to do it, main dealers will be £500+
Unless you take their word for it, it's difficult to check for, unless starting first thing from cold, as once they're up & running they're usually fine for the rest of the day.
Lots on info about it on the Pajero owner's club(pocuk).

Dave.

I have a 2.8 LWB Pajero, noticeably better than the 2.5 power wise, I usually get between 475 and 525 to a tank full of fuel, don't know how many gallons as I fill up at home. It is comfy, warm and reliable the fuel pump seal being the only possible problem. As said lots of info on POCUK, they are just Shogun's for the Japanese home market but being imported from Japan where they do not use salt on the roads in winter they are rust free when they arrive. Comparing a Shogun with a Pajero of the same age the Pajero is usually the hands down winner on general condition.

If you can find a decent , older, 4.2 lit Toyota for about £3000, I wouldn't hesitate. Simply the best. Good for 300.000 to 400.000 miles. In Belgium you couldn't buy the 4 wheels for that price. A 12/15 year old model would sell around 9000 to 10.000 £.
