Is that not going to be HME?I would be taking a good look at the forthcoming 7mm PRC.
(Other 7mm's are available...).

Looking for a non HME so no grief from Bisley NRA.I would be taking a good look at the forthcoming 7mm PRC.

Saying that, 7mm PRC is essentially 7 Blaser Mag..

Interesting, that seems to fall behind my .280, 3150 fps for a 145 gr NBT for 62 grains of powder. Albeit I’m shooting a 26” and the 6.5 will have a better BC6.5CM, + about 200fps - 250fps bullet weight, for bullet weight. BUT, the extra speed will cost you powder.
Very accurate with hand loads, and many get excellent results with factory.
I have one in a 22" barrel, ELD-X 143gn @ 3070fps. 59.2gn RL26.
I also have a 6.5CM, 24" barrel, ELD-X 143gn @2875fps, 42gn RS60, and also very accurate.
There are guys running up to 156gn bullets, and getting circa 3100fps, but with barrels circa 26", and the appropriate twist rate.
You can always load it slightly slower at bisley as you can’t shoot further than 1200 anyway so a mile is out of the question.Looking for a non HME so no grief from Bisley NRA.

But 180 @ 2950 is just shy of 3500 ft-lb, not 4500 but still HME at
The 6.5 with a 156 at 3100 is the same, just over but can be loaded slower which effectively turns it back to a creedmoor!
To all intents and purposes, yes.
My mistake I mis-read your original post.3479 ft-lbs (180gr at 2950fps) equates to 4717J. As you note, above the 4500J HME limit.
Download the 7mm to a (slightly) more sedate 2880fps and you will scrape in at 4495J, but you will have the irritation of having to prove your ammo to the RCO each time I assume? (Not a range shooter so I have no idea how these things are enforced)
Same with the 6.5 I guess. A 156gr at 3095fps would just skirt in below limit at 4499J, but if you are going to have to go through the rigmarole each time then why not just buy a Creedmoor and have done with it?
But think of the embarrassment of having to use the phrase "Sig Fury" when someone enquires what chambering you are shooting. No, but the new 80,000 psi SIG .277 Fury will be kicking every cartridges teeth in (if it ever becomes commercially available...)

Would be interesting to see 26” figures as the above is a way behind my .280 but with a 16” barrel, at that pressure it is going to eat barrels for a pastime and brass is going to be expensiveNo, but the new 80,000 psi SIG .277 Fury will be kicking every cartridges teeth in (if it ever becomes commercially available...)

Was seeing a consultant recently, conversation got on to shooting, had to admit that I owned a creedmoor he said ‘I knew it, you even have the 6.5 haircut’But think of the embarrassment of having to use the phrase "Sig Fury" when someone enquires what chambering you are shooting.
It positively reeks of gung-ho, Action Man pretensions.
You just know, if it does become commercially available, that it is destined to be the new 6.5 Creedmoor (skip caps worn backwards, tacti-cool beards, man-buns, lots of webbing and MOLLE pouches etc etc etc...)
Was seeing a consultant recently, conversation got on to shooting, had to admit that I owned a creedmoor he said ‘I knew it, you even have the 6.5 haircut’. (I don’t have a man bun)

We’ll, pretty much there, hair got long during lockdown, decided to relive my 90’s teen years and got an undercut (stopped short of the man bun, which I may have had back then)…… and I already owned a swede
It is a little known fact that there is a self-test that a gentleman can apply if he ever finds himself considering a man-bun or top-knot.
That test is to ask oneself one simple question: "Is my name Musashi Miyamoto?"
If the answer is "no" then forget the haircut, buy a 6.5 Swede and just get on with it.....![]()
Thank you for the response BadFor EDCM’s post about shooting a mile -
I have some shooting buddies who use a 6.5PRC at extended range. Quite effective in accuracy and high BC efficiency. It’s still a relatively light, relatively small bullet which will be transonic at best at a mile.
You mention avoiding Bisley HME, but personally I had the same decision and decided on a .300 magnum. Already have a 308 and 6.5CM.
To hit things at extended range, you need to be able to see the bullet splash and having a 300 instead of a 6.5 makes that easier.
You have a 308 and 6mm. Just use them at Chobham Ridge or up to about 1100 metres. That’s as far as you will get at Bisley. Then use a 300 for more then that, which won’t be at Bisley and so you probably will not need to worry about HME procedures. Can you see your 6mm splash at 1200m? So you will also have difficulty seeing a 6.5 splash at a mile.
A 300 magnum is still a lot cheaper to run then going full retard with a 37XC, 416 etc and will allow you to push to 2 kilometres once you do the mile. I don’t think you will see a 6.5 splash that far out unless you are shooting into dry dirt, which probably won’t be anywhere in Britain. At least give yourself something to work with, with a high BC, heavy, .300 bullet coming out fast.
Just cough the £25 for the NRA HME course and the flaff of proving zero, if you want to use Bisley as a one off for checking groups.
