It's nought to do with spuds! It's a numbers game, I was recently told by a FAL that I couldn't have a 6.5x55 as my permissions were only cleared for .308,but I could have a 260 or 270. 6.5 is bigger than .308 therefore much scarier!

Politely point out you're not after a 6.5 inch cannon.

I've been told by a certain official that there are only 4 firearms holders in Hampshire that have a 6.5x55 on their tickets. I've been told this is incorrect.

If you have a 6.5x55 on your ticket and live in Hampshire please post here.

Simply submit a 'Freedom of Information' request to the chief constable of Hampshire eg. ' How many firearm certificate holders, who are residents of Hampshire, are authorised to possess or acquire a 6.5x55mm rifle ?'
The information can be obtained in about 30 seconds from the NFLMS computer. Job done.

I did hear not too long ago about a chap who applied for a .308 and was told by his FEO that he couldnt have the .308 as it was "too big" but he could have a .30-06 as that was smaller.

I gather the response from the applicant went "Err.. Ok!" and he is now the proud owner of a .30-06.
