6x45 excitement

Ahhhh never mind. I'd like some North Forks as well but that's also a non-starter.

Is it the 458270HV's that you have your eye on? Tiemens (t2ammo) in Holland is meant to be getting the GS's manufactured in Europe but I think they're having teething problems. It might be worth getting in touch with them.

If anyone has any 6mm bullets to spare and are willing to post one to me I'll happily reimburse costs.

I'm looking for:

70gr Matchking
95gr Matchking
105gr Amax
Any other 6mm bullets you may have kicking about.

I'm just interested in using them to make some dummy rounds for reference so only really need 1-2 of each.

Thanks in advance,

Rory

i have a collection of approximately 20 kinds of 6mm bullets from 70-105g
only have two of each
was going to be an expansion test comparison

you are welcome to them
may even be in Aberdeen within the next couple of weeks

I had a 6.5 TCU for a Contender which frame made from the .223 parent case but I sold the barrel when I moved up to the 6.5 JDJ I still have the TCU`s dies somewhere, never used them.
So the .223 case has been played with a lot already over the years.

New composite stock

I popped the fibreglass shell out of the moulds last night - a bit of finishing/inletting moulding to do yet.

Life has got pretty busy so I haven't got any machines to do the rebarrel yet.

Thank you, I will get in touch if I have trouble with working up loads. I think I'll try Ramshot X-Terminator first - have you had any experience with that one?

If I get the rifle approved for roe deer (currently just for target) I will most likely try 62gr GS Custom copper bullets driven fast (3400fps). I don't see any reason why they won't work very well. I think the Nosler 70gr BT would be a good option too.

From what I've read I agree that for hunting bullets above 85gr can't be driven fast enough.

I think my fascination with the cartridge is that it will be relatively cheap to shoot (won't cost much more than shooting a .223) and a little bit different. I like the fact that cases are easy to make from .223 brass just by full length sizing, no fireforming steps etc.

Are you able to get exterminator locally, its been in short supply for some time? Apparently due to a fire at the factory but don't know if thats true or not.

I bought a tub of Xterminator about a year ago locally and it works well for the .222. I think that they still have stock. Yes, there seem to be shortages of Ramshot. So much for thinking availability would be good since it's European manufactured. I use Hunter too and I really like it.

Stock progress

Got the butt filled with foam and inletting done. The inletting moulding stiffens the stock up hugely! A little bit of filing got the action in very snugly.

Barrel channel and butt pad need attention next, and will bed it and add swivel studs before it goes for coating.

It's weighing in at 950g so far with the pachmayr buttpad, so should be close to 1kg finished.

Looking good! I can't believe I missed that you were making your own fibreglass stock, great work mate.

Cheers, Jim. Will do a separate post to show the finished item soon! Its taken a while but am relieved it's nearly there. It's weighing in at 1.02kg compared to about 1.2kg for original walnut stock.

Next one should be carbon fibre, unpainted and weigh a fair bit less.

Gucci that mate. Impressive stuff, if this weren't a censored forum it'd be a much bluer post!

Lets at hope you have plenty of spare time as I can see you getting a couple requests!

Sako 75 AIII and Tikka T3 next I think. It does take a fair bit of time but I'm sure I'll get a bit quicker as I go. Hopefully be able to make them cost effectively and a bit cheaper than Mcmillan etc.

What kind of foam are you using to fill the stock voids with? I have a Tikka 595 stock that I am playing with & have been wondering what to use to deaden it & give it rigidity. I've been mulling over ideas to insert strengthening "beams" into the forestock molding them in place then foaming it.

Stunning stock project.

How did you make it? Male mould that you put a glass shell onto or split female moulds that you then joined?
