7mm Rem Mag

I preffer hogdons powder h1000 for the heavyier heads it seems to be a low pressure powder but can achive great velocity with it and a heavy bullet traveling fast means more energy so can shoot greater distances.

I never started any bragging in this thread and it just seems that perhaps Stalkerboydy is a little insecure.

:cuckoo::cuckoo: no bragging hey !!!!! 810 yrd Deer shot !!!!!! betting your wages on how good you are !!!!! 1000 Deer !!!! oh .204 how good a shot you are !!!!! whilst i admire ANYBODY who is capable of long range shooting accuratly at Paper Targets and yes i agree the Rifles we use to STALK and shoot Deer are more than capable of Killing at extended range It the humane and risk factor as you yourself stated you have screwed shot at less than 200yrds and im sure ( including ME ) the are plenty honest Bloke on here who have to So why go shooting at Stupid ranges and put the wounding risk even higher or now are you going to say your a Deer MIND READER !!!!!!

I am not saying its right to shoot deer at that range but it's easily achievable with the right equipment in capable hands,I don't think he was bragging, just stated a fact,he could of got it wrong but he didn't,we have all made a not so good shot or two,a bad shot at that range is likely to miss completely if you got windage wrong aswell.I just reread rpa's thread,it did say longest kill, didn't say what though.....

I have read this post from the start and I dont recall the op stating that his 810 yard kill was a deer , he does state that reds dont like the 7mm rem mag , it is a seperate statement that his longest
kill was 810 yards with that rifle .
Maybe if people took the time to read what is actually written and not respond to what they think a post says then maybe we would not get so much of this bitching on here .

Rpa6mmbr ive read it and like everyone is stating that you never mentioned deer at all, i think he shouldnt comment on tgings he clearly doesnt know anything about.

So returning to the point of the thread 7mm Rem Mag is a good calibre then? Between 50 to 1000 yds depending on your ability and aspirations!!:thumb::closed::tiphat:

Yes ytene is a really good calibre but alot of ppl carnt hack the recoil and say its to harsh, its not harsh ita only lie ahooting a stoked up 270 or 30-06.

well at last your got two things right i cant read or wright very well we ALL have faults and those TWO are mine Thanks for pointing out some thing ive known most of my life. oh dont diss out what you cant take back AND I HAVE a life thank and the only one who seems to be getting pe'd off is you I never knocked you or any one about the 7mm Mag or your abilty Just your Bragging attitude and not just on this thread  ps i see Deerwarden mentioned Deer aswell

Surely I am not the only one on here who is waiting to hear what the "kill" was? :?:

If only to know the size of the target rather than the ethics between different animals and whether one species demands more respect than another

This has a lot to do with the rifle build and fit. As with the .270's and .300 win mags, there were and still are a lot of dreadful stocks out there.
If the rifle is the right weight and fit it's a reasonable calibre. Probably not something you'd want to shoot all day mind.

Tony,

On the subject of recoil - I am a relative newcomer to rifle shooting and am no hero when it comes to the kick from a rifle. Without a mod or brake my 7mm Rem Mag (Sako 85) is at the limit of acceptable recoil for me. However, this a personal thing and only you know what you can happily deal with.

With a mod or muzzle brake the recoil becomes absolutely fine. I prefer a brake to a mod because the balance is better. The barrel on mine is about 26 inches long. A longish barrel is needed to get the best out of the cartridge. My mod (Northstar) on the end makes it quite barrel heavy. There's no such problem with a brake.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Bob

Have you looked at a lighter mod?
Atec Cmm4 Alu for instance.

Muzzlebrakes are effective but not helpful for your hearing in the long term.

High Dovebob..thanks for that...my rifle will have a mod..my initial choice was a 338 WM ! Recoil is not a problem for the usual 1-shot hunting scenario for me ,zeroing will be with the mod, so acceptable..Cheers,Tony

That is true..but I tend to employ the Red Indian Method of "Stay Still See Much"...hardly ever fails in the right areas !
