Yes, 7 x 57 proper gentleman's cartridge, 7 x 64 proper gentleman's more efficient cartridge.
David.
I have to say I'm surprised at the number of 7/08 rifles you blokes have. Correct me if I'm wrong but I would have thought the 7x57 would be better represented. You see I recently bought one. I'll admit to bit of nostalgia creeping in but the old cartridge can still keep up with the youngsters. No game shot just yet but hand loading and bench testing is going well. The rifle loves Hornady 139gn SST's and 50gn of 4350, or as we refer to it here, ADI2209. I've also fed it some 160gn Woodleigh Protected Points and some 154gn Interlocks. So far it looks like the 139's are winning with consistent .6inch groups at 100m and 2inch at 200. The rifle is a Zastava M70 blued steel and some sort of walnut.
Hi Wes, I've settled on 50gn of 2209 with the 139SST mate. I chronographed it at just over 2,800fps, and about an inch and a half high at 100, dead on at 200, I'm currently playing with some 160gn Woodleigh PP's. I tried them with 2213sc but couldn't get up to 2,500 so I'm starting with 44gn of 2209 and going up in .5grain increments to 46gn then I'll see how far I want to take it. The Woodleighs were shooting well under an inch at 100 with the old load of 49gn 2213sc but only giving me around 2,460. There's also some work to be done with the 154gn Interlocks.Hi tacklerat,
Your got the same outfit as me! Ive just started development for mine, with 2209 and 139 interlocks, haven't had a chance to see how they run yet. Glad to see 09 works. i got some cheap highland 139g sp ive been running through it for the brass, they shoot about an inch at 100, i was happy with that for my purposes but .6 i would be very happy.
Do you know the velocity? not that that matters, i'd rather have accuracy!
Wes
