Hi all, Mrs F will be attending some kind of book festival in a place called Wigtown later this year. I (not interested in the slightest) in books, wouldn't mind a stalk or 2 when we're over there. Does any one have any contacts or recommendations for both accommodation and stalking in that area?

Thanks F

Lovely place to visit!
If you fancy an Hotel by the coast a wee bit away from Wigtown, the Steam Packet Inn in the Isle of Whithorn is a good place to try. The Creebridge Hotel in Newton Stewart is OK as well. @Gallowaycountrysports may well be able to sort you out if they have any vacancies as Stranraer isn't a million miles away.
The other possibility would be Colin Lockerbie (Solway Stalker - although he tends to be via facebook now).

Great gunshop down the road in New Luce. Galloway field sports is your best bet that close to wigtown.https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/deer-stalking-dumfries-and-galloway.324396/#post-3442052
Colin Lockerbie is a bout 50 ish minutes away in St Johns Town if you fancied a drive.

Tried contacting them, (gallowaycountrysports) no reply!! Have since heard negative reports about them, so will give them a miss.

I was in a syndicate about a mile out of Newton Stewart for a number of years. I used to stay at The Crown Hotel, Newton Stewart - Hotel, Bar & Restaurant

Rooms were ok, but we had a deal with the hotel so was fairly cheap. The bar becomes a nightclub at the weekend, had a few late ones…Great fry in the morning!

Creebridge hotel was a lot nicer but more costly.

Can’t help on stalking contacts as it’s 15 years since I was around there. At that point there were very good numbers of roe about- I never had a blank weekend, some fallow and the odd red popping up now and again.
