Accurate small calibre.

.17 Fireball, .204, .22-250

All very flat shooting, very accurate.

I'd like a .22-250 and might put in for one as a dedicated foxing rifle.

Can attest to the quietness of the fireball. Granted it's using a full bore mod but the mental how quiet it is, impact is way louder than the shot
A 17HMR uses 5-6 grains of powder.
A 17 Fireball 15-20 with a 20 grain bullet.
Like for like, the Fireball must be louder.
I use 22 grains of powder in my 21" 17 Rem. Without a sound moderator it is very loud.

Yeah obviously like for like, but with a full bore mod on the .17 fireball it's as quiet as the HMR!

Non moderated sure, but I own both a fireball and hmr and modded the fireball is without a doubt quieter less of a bang less of a crack

I see a few are suggesting 17 Rem or 17FB, are you guys buying box's of ammunition or rolling your own, because round my neck of the woods supply seems to be rather short.
Thankfully i load for my 17Rem if i didn't i would be selling it.
Does the OP re load if not then the choice of calibre will need more thought.

Personally I load my own but have been able to source factory, as you say location makes a huge difference
