Adding more of the same calibres to my FAC

My renewal is coming up, I have a few different calibres on my FAC. If I wanted to add the same calibres again because I want to have a couple of rifles to choose from in each calibre, is this likely to be an issue? The only reason I want to do this is so that I can have a night vision sight permanently attached to a rilfe and then have a day scope attached to the other one of the same calibre. Just saves me swapping scopes all the time and having to re-zero. Anybody else have similar on their FAC?

You’ve provided a perfect justification c/o the reference to two distinct setups. That said, if you already have a number of rifles and consider yourself an enthusiast of all things firearms (rifle) related I can’t see a pragmatic FLO/FEO having a problem with two rifles, or more, given of the same chambering in your cabinet.

Just remember to also up your ammunition allowance!

I didn't ask for the same caliber but close I have a 204r and put in for a 22-250, My FEO advised the only way I would get this is for the very reason you are putting down, One for day shooting and the other for night shooting, I did get the variation but haven't filled the slot yet.

Shouldn't be an issue if you have sound justification.
I have x2 .22rf.
One permanently wears a pard 008 and the other has a 4-16 scope, no swapping about rezeroing and all that malarkey.

I have 2x 6.5's

One is a 6.5x47 with an overall length of 36.5 inches. I tend to use this in woodland, some of which is "rain forest".

I also use a 6.5-284 which is a good bit longer than the above and I tend to take to open hill areas where the ability for longer ranger shots pays off and extra length isn't really an

I used to collect and shoot military and historical arms and back in the 90’s my cert held 4x303, 8x.22rf, four different 9mm pistol calibres and two .455. I had plenty of others, my fac ran to nine pages but they were single calibre options like .25 and .32 pistols. I also had a number of modern target and stalking rifles!

It became simpler to become an rfd!

As long as you have a valid reason for each then there should be no problem getting the variations that you need.
You can say for instance that you need one .308 firearm with a long heavy barrel and a 1:8 twist to shoot heavy for calibre bullets for target shooting.
you need another .308 rifle with a light weight 1:11 barrel for stalking, you can have another .308 rifle for use with iron sights, you can have another .308 rifle with a short barrel that will be used with a suppressor for fox control (though some forces may baulk at the use of a .308 for foxing ) you could have another with a fully suppressed barrel (permanently fixed like the AI AW suppressed rifle) for PRS style competition shooting etc etc.

Ive done the same mate

Already got a .223 but wanted something similar for day use only and wanted to put the .223 as a dedicated night gun so asked for a 22-250 for day use only and was granted that no problem

Just need to fill my 22-250 slot now

That is the primary reason for it

Hill vs Woodland
Range vs Stalking
Night vs Day

etc etc

I still have several of the same calibre.cartridge listed on mine but over the years I have had:

5x .22lr including a 22WMR, 17HMR, 17Mach2
4x .270
2x 300 Norma Mag whilst also having a 338 Lap Mag

Now have three 6.5s listed

It might not help the opening poster but I got two .270 slots so that I could buy a new rifle without having to sell my existing rifle before acquiring the new one. This was with North Wales Police who, at the time and contrary to previous experience, had a sensible and pragmatic FLO. He also gave me “Any Legal Quarry” on all my rifles when I complained that if I was out with the .270 I couldn’t shoot a fox if asked to by the gamekeeper because the rifle was conditioned for just deer, boar and zeroing.

I often think it would be a good idea if, instead of for a specific calibre, slots were granted for a generic calibre, so for a .300 slot you could have any calibre that qualified e.g. .30-06, .270, .308, .275 or 7mm and this would mean that you could change from say .270 to .30-06 without having to worry about getting a variation and of course having two slots for a generic calibre would allow a choice and daytime/nighttime set ups. Two generic calibre slots would cover most people’s needs covering calibres from .22-250 to .308. Even better if FACs were credit card sized with all the information on the magnetic strip and Firearms Dealers had readers connected to a central database that could add new weapons and deduct weapons traded in thereby automatically opening up the slot. I know! Far too sensible, it will never happen!

As above good reason, I have x2 .22 rf and x2 .17hmr as stated 1 of each caliber for day shooting and other for night.
Exactly as you would like….
If you have a FLO that understands how it all works speak with them and go from there.
Best of luck!

Two 7mm-08 rifles here, one for shooting non lead and the other for shooting lead, non lead and target. Variation back within a fortnight, no problems at all.
