Additional Blaser Barrel

Just to sideline slightly... 6.5 x 55 or the “new” 6.5 Creedmoor? I’ve seen a couple of low round count 6.5 x 55 R8 barrels or spend £300 more and get new Creedmoor. Thanks again!

That all depends on what kind of beard you’ve got. I’ve a x55 and can’t fault it.
Save yourself 300 quid, especially if you reload. 👍

If you two want to have a go at each other I suggest you do it off this site please. No further warnings will be given.
Thank you.

I can’t see much utility in getting anything larger, as there’s not much that can’t be done effectively with a .308; unless you want a buffalo cartridge, in which case I’d be looking at a second rifle, not barrel. So I’d go smaller, 6XC or .243 perhaps, or even .223 for loads of cheap practice.

I have 52 cm barrel in 308 and 58 cm barrel in 6.5×55. 308 is a great cal capable of everything from still hunting deer to driven hunting wild boar. I must however admit I use only the 6.5 nowdays. Less recoil, less bang but still plenty of efficiency. The short 308 can be pretty thumpy and loud. The 6.5 also enables one to use an iteresting range of bullets from 85 gr on, making it very versatile and usable even for fox hunting, while with tougher bullets I even take it to driven hunting. Why buy something like 223 or 243 if a 6.5 can do everything those do and even much more.

Everyone has their opinion! Why buy another barrel if it makes what you already have largely redundant? For that reason I wouldn’t get a 6.5 barrel if I already had a .308. If I just wanted one rifle or barrel then that’s a different matter.

And if I already had a deer and boar rifle/barrel then I’d go for a heavy rifle/barrel 6mm for foxing, gongs, fun, etc. Or a .223 for cheaper practice than any 6mm or 6.5mm will give you.
